Currently the top 12 in VORP (source: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2024_advanced.html) in the East is as follows, in order:
G Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers) 1.1
B Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers) 1.1
G Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers) 1.0
F Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics) 0.9
G Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers) 0.9
F Scottie Barnes (Toronto Raptors) 0.9
B Kristaps Porzingis (Boston Celtics) 0.7
F Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat) 0.5
G Derrick White (Boston Celtics) 0.5
G Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics) 0.5
F Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) 0.5
B Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat) 0.4
Interestingly four Celtics. Don't care much for all star selections, but if this continues we should see a green colored all star team.
I don't know why you'd use an advanced stat to indicate all-star viability. All-star is more about popularity, narrative, and counting stats.
Since the Celtics are too deep to have the best counting stats, they need the "best team" narrative to give their non-Tatum guys a boost. However, that can only go so far. I think the best you could expect is Tatum and Porzingis, then one other player between Brown and Holiday is a borderline candidate.
Automatic Eastern locks so far:
Maxey
Haliburton
Lillard (based on reputation alone he will get in)
Mitchell
Tatum
Butler
Giannis
Adebayo
Embiid
Probable:
LaMelo Ball (he always does well in the fan vote)
Scottie Barnes
That's already 11 players, which doesn't leave a lot of spots for the borderline guys:
The "maybes":
Julius Randle
Jalen Brunson
Mikal Bridges
Jaylen Brown
Kristaps Porzingis
Jrue Holiday
Pascal Siakim
Trae Young
Evan Mobley
Myles Turner
The "probably nots":
Cade Cunningham
Dejounte Murray
Darius Garland (slow start, injuries)
Jarrett Allen
Zach Lavine
Demar DeRozan
Nikola Vucevic
Franz Wagner
Paulo Banchero
Kyle Kuzma
