and the Sixers, with the loss to the Cavs are now eliminated from the In-Season tournament.

Too bad the loss to the Hornets wasn’t a tournament game - to get the Cs out.  Waste of energy and an injury risk to play in the Vegas finals.

I'm not a fan of the IST, but my understanding is that all teams play 82 games regardless. If so, then it's not a waste of energy or any higher injury risk.

The qualifying games are part of the 82 game regular season but aren't there a couple more for those teams that actually make it?  I'm not sure.

I'm not sure either, but it makes sense.

Only the finals is an 83rd game.  Teams that are eliminated in the group stage will each get a home and road game against other eliminated teams.  Teams eliminated in the quarters will get a bonus game against fellow quarterfinalists.  If you make it to the semis in Vegas and lose, you don’t have an extra game, because that’s game 82 (and probably get to spend a couple extra days in Vegas having fun).

Jazz have a really strange roster. It’s Markkanen and a bunch of role players.

Is Markkanen a role player?

I guess depends on your definition, but I view him as the third best player on a contending team (at best).

I think he’s pretty good. Made the all-star team last year. Definitely the most valuable player on their roster.

I’m unconvinced. 25ppg one- way players are generally worth less to good teams, especially with the way scoring numbers are inflated now. I’ve always liked Markannen, but he’s a bad defender and his offense isn’t good enough to build a contender around as either a first or second option. He would be the 5th or 6th best player on the Cs.

I do think he could be a  really good third option if he’s backed up by a defenders at other positions.

I think Markkanen could give a contending team about what Porzingis gives.  People thought Porzingis was not that good until they got to see him on the Celtics.  I feel Markkanen is on a similar level.  That may be 3rd best on a team like the Celtics but that does not mean Markkanen is not a good player.

Wizards looking to get rid of gallinari. If he's bought out could we bring him back?

I expect Brad to be active in the trade/buyout market imo.

If he's traded and then bought out, yes. But if a team trades for him I expect it will be someone who wants to keep him. If the Wizards buy him out, then I no, I believe we are not allowed to sign him.

I think that is right.  The Celtics are prohibited from signing Gallinari if he is released by the Wizards for 1 year from the trade.  If Gallinari is traded to another team and released, then the Celtics are fine.  I also agree that it does not seem likely that a team would trade with the Wizards for him and then release him.  Teams usually only do that if they get a second round pick out of it or something but there is no reason for the Wizards to sell him off in that way.  They would just release him.

I suspect that they will be able to trade him to a team that actually hopes to use him.  The Wizards will have to take back some salary and maybe some form of draft asset.

I think we could trade for him, but he does not quite fit the Grant TPE.  Without that, I don't see a practical way to match salary.

Yep.  About the only way we could sign him is if he’s traded somewhere at the deadline as salary-filler and subsequently released.  Unlikely, not impossible, and then he would of course have to want to sign in Boston as opposed to elsewhere.

We could trade for Muscala though, at least it works on Fanspo.  For those who are itching to dump Kornet, a straight up deal works.  WAS could then waive Kornet and save money with his not fully guaranteed contract.  We could also get Muscala for part of the TPE.  I am not advocating for this, just pointing out the possibility.

Not for the in-season tournament.
