  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Haliburton with a 20-20 game. 21pts 20ast.

0 turnovers.

Out of all the near misses in the draft, Haliburton is definitely the #1.  I've always wondered what it would have taken for Danny to move up two spots in that draft.

Bleugh and then we ended up with Aaron Nesmith who eventually ends up being traded elsewhere down the road.

Ainge definitely hit on the Jays, and Smart + Timelord + GWill to an extent, but he also had a ton of misses particularly with the mid-to-late 1sts. James Young, Nesmith, RJ Hunter, Rozier (outside of that "Scary Terry" 2018 playoff run he was mostly meh), Langford, Mickey, Zizic, Yabusele, and a bunch of others.

Funny enough, I think this has also contributed to GM Brad Stevens' aggressive mindset in making trades and giving up a bunch of 1sts. Brad Stevens the coach had to be fuming seeing other teams make deadline moves and improve their rosters while he had the likes of Langford/Nesmith/Young just toiling in the bench and Ainge hoarding all the picks at the trading deadlines (even 2nd rounders).

A few of these misses are a bit silly. Jordan Mickey was a second round pick. Neismith is performing above average for a 14 pick and helped us get brogdon. Rozier is a big hit for the 16th pick. I don’t really know what people expect from mid to late first rounders when I read stuff like this. But players like neismith and rozier starting and averaging double figures 3-5 years into their career is very far from the norm for 14 and 16 picks.

Rozier is legitimately good. I know points aren't everything, but he's putting up 23ppg right now. If we had signed him instead of Kemba (technically 'trading' him), maybe we could have gotten Al as a 1-for-1 trade rather than including the 1st and we'd have Sengun right now.

OKC putting on a show IN Denver.

Hopefully we're fully healthy for them next Tuesday. That's a good measuring stick game for two of the best teams in the league.

Grizzlies about to tip-off against the Clippers on NBA TV. Curious to see how Morant and Smart look playing together…

Starting lineup: Morant, Smart, Bane, Jackson Jr, Biyambo. Not a lot of shooting…

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

OKC with a 18-point-lead right now against Denver in the 3rd quarter.
If they keep this up they'll overtake them in the standings for the 2nd seed.
Another impressive performance led by SGA?

I was at the nuggets game here tonight. Haven’t seen them get whipped at home like that in quite a while

They really missed Gordon defensively tonight

This year at least.  I’m a huge Chet fan, but I do think Wemby will pass him in the long run (assuming both stay healthy).  Chet’s nearly two years older.

Both are going to be studs for a long time.  Victor has a little bit of a higher upside as soon as he figures out who he wants to be as a player.  Chet knows who he is already.

Saw a funny meme.  Said something like happy 39th birthday to Lebron, only 15 more years of his prime to go.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Grant Williams is cratering.  In the last 15 games, DAL is +135 without himi and -123 when he is on the court.  I know that on/off and +/- stats don't tell the whole story, but what is going on?

I expected some issue, that Grant is more suited as a primary bench guy than a primary starter, that he would have a hard time playing to his contract, but this is a huge slump for and extended period of time.

Idk what to really make of this? Feels like a lateral move, maybe slight edge for TOR?

Oh and also, Precious Achiuwa is also headed to New York in the deal.

Honestly I don't think this a great trade for NY. You're putting a ton of pressure on Brunson to be the sole outside shot creator.
