Also fully expect Siakam to be gone as well. Last day before whoever trades for him loses bird rights.

Strange trade. Don’t think it helps NYK all that much, so why use some of your assets on that instead of a higher profile star/better piece?

For Toronto, I guess it’s good to get Quickley out of the deal if you’re not committed to OG long-term.

But this is good news for us. Much rather OG on NYK than Philly. They could still nab Siakam, who would be a good get for them, but his refusal to agree to resign anywhere makes that more complicated.

Barrett was tough to trade because of his extension, which created a poison pill for matching (his outgoing salary was $10 million but his incoming salary was $23 million), so they needed to find someone in the $15-20 million range for those purposes.  They kept their draft picks, however, which they can use for something higher profile if it comes down the line.

I think last night was the last straw for the Raptors. The fire sale has begun.

Detroit has a very good chance of ending their losing streak against an undermanned Toronto team.

Yeah...I think that is going to happen. Raptors are done. You can't beat Boston without 3 key players and have Luke Kornet out play your guys....time to move on.

Barnes is going to be wasted there.

I am not sure how this makes the Knicks better

RJ Barrett sucks. Can’t shoot at all. OG is a better player.

If I had to guess, Siakam will be traded to either Atlanta, Sacramento or Indiana

All 3 could use him

I think he’ll do better in TOR though and will have a bigger role in the offense. And OG will do better with the Knicks.

The Knicks are desperate for another big man with Mitchell Robinson out for the season, so Precious Achiuwa may help there. Precious wasn’t a great fit for Toronto as the spacing was terrible there, and he would just clog it up more.

Also this trade may open up more opportunities for Grimes, as he was probably under utilized there with the glut of guards they had previously.

I was high on Quickley and thought he was worth more than that.  Maybe RJ’s value is worse than I realize, though, and this is less “Toronto acquires RJ” and more “NY gets out from under RJ.”  That might make a little more sense from the Knicks’ perspective.

Still think the Raptors did well here though.  Got a starter-level lead guard that they sorely needed for an expiring 3-and-D forward who, while good, has become somewhat overrated imo.

Was hoping we could have gotten Precious. Would have fit into trade exception.

I think it's a good trade for the Knicks.  The issue is they don't have many outside shooters.  Their size and toughness may be even better but they have no shooters outside of Brunson.  It the long run this will hurt them.
