Banton has great length as a point.  Anyone think he could eventually be a rotation guard if fast PP gets his wish to be traded?

I assume the team tried to trade him, and nobody wanted him. So the next best thing is to try to get a reasonable deal done. Anything above $5M-$6M is an overpay...Roy's comps make sense.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

The c's probably want a team friendly deal.  It's probably in PP's interest to bet on himself.  If for some reason he doesn't get adequate PT then he's going to be on a 1 year deal with a bad team who can give him some run.  If the deal is in the 6-8m range he should take the deal and run with it.  Can't pass up 18-24m of Job security.

Why would you assume that?

I'm happy with this. I think he'll show to be valuable. Every season he's played, he has been a much better player with more minutes than less. Think that will continue
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Think the extension is more flexibility for the Cs to be able to have a trade-able contract to play with in the near future.

Because he's not that good and he's been at a position of general strength. He doesn't particularly fit into our high switching style on defense. I don't know what team would really line up to pay him.

That's okay! I get that perspective too. I hope I'm wrong and he shows up in a big way this year. He'll certainly have the opportunity to do so. If he doesn't seize it this year, then he's going to stay a 6'1 26-year-old with limited agility who scores 5-7 points per game on 41% shooting. I hope he makes the leap -- I've generally always liked him and it's cool when he goes off and shows his potential. The team needs him to get there.

I think the Pritchard has been jerked around quite a bit in his role with this team. I think he'd produce on a more consistent basis if he could have a clearly defined role. He's produced when he's gotten minutes and a clear role. I can't wait to see what they do with him this year.

PP just needs minutes....you can't yank him after a missed shot and not play him for 2 weeks...Joe gotta take the gamble.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

I agree. he should get 12-18 minutes a night through the season and playoff minutes depending on matchups. I really want Joe to pay more guys this year. Like the way coach Bud used to do with The Bucks.

And this applies to Hauser too.  We need to let these guys play, even if they struggle some.  Can't quit on them so easily this season.

I expect Banton to get a chance at some point. Either to unseat Pritchard as the main backup guard or to replace Pritchard in the rotation in matchups (especially playoff series) where Pritchard's lack of size is an issue. Say against Miami and Jimmy Butler. Stop Jimmy from matchup hunting Pritchard.

That said, I wasn't impressed by Banton when I saw him play in TOR so he will probably fluff his lines and blow his opportunity.

He can’t be Eddie House if you don’t play him.
