I have no idea what his market is.  T.J. McConnell is making around $8 million per season, and Jevon Carter is making $6.5 million.  I would assume that those guys are fair comparables.

I would trade Pritchard in a heartbeat for McConnell (TJ, not Mitch). I do not think Pritchard is very good... at all. I hope he proves me wrong, I want us to win. but the thought of paying him above 5M per year really scares me, he has not proven anything in meaningful minutes. I really do not trust him as our main backup or #3 guard. At all.

Pritchard had an interesting year last season.

His overall shooting numbers turned out okay:  36.4% 3PT%, .527 eFG%

But that's a bit deceiving.  He was aided by a really great two-game stretch in April, when he went 13-for-24 on 3PTs.  Prior to those two games, he was at 33.1% 3PT% for the season.  That's pretty bad for a guy who doesn't contribute much more than shooting.
It's hard to have a consistent shooting stroke if you're not getting consistent minutes. I think he can play a valuable role - at least during the regular season - if Joe gives him 20 minutes per game.

It's on the higher end for a backup.

We will see quickly this year if he's worth it.  With the cap going up over the next few years this will feel like a steal.  Hopefully DWhite is next.

Is it? That means with normal raises it will start at about 7 million next year. That would be the 200th highest salary THIS year, probably lower than that next year when the extension starts.

Sounds about right for PP in the current salary cap and situation. Nice tradable piece in the future, too.

I still feel like this deal is more about setting up a piece for a future trade than it is about paying Pritchard what he's worth.  Perhaps I'm not giving him enough credit, I don't know.

Good for Pritchard either way.  That'll pay the bills.

I would give him something around 2/18M, or 3/27M. Some of that with incentives

I also look at it as a contract to potentially use in trades, since a lot of our guys on the roster now are making north of 30M a year so it'd be hard to salary match at deadlines and such

Pretty much in range with what I thought, with an extra year. Good for PP, and good for the team as well. In today's NBA market, 7M for a backup PG is very nice, and like I said, they could also look at it as a piece to dangle in any future trade that requires salary-filler

Brad is seriously the anti-Danny when it comes to rookie extensions. Ainge usually only got the no- Rainer deals done, with harder to place guys like Rob and Pritchard going to FA instead.

Hopefully Payton's larger role will make this deal look like a steal come next July
I'm bitter.

It's a low downside deal since it is so cheap. As others have mentioned, it's very tradeable and Payton has at least proven he can play a role in this league. He should be able to better prove himself this season without Brogdon in front of him. Players have been singing his praises in camp, too. Apparently he's been a monster out there. Not a high ceiling player, but he should be able to eat up regular season minutes if necessary.

It shows him we value him and his role on this year's team. He's our 7th man right now, so he is important.

$7.5m on average per year seems just right. Time to become Patty Mills 2.0
