What level of draft pick would it take for the Patriots to absorb Russell Wilson into their cap space?  If the Broncos offered a 2nd rounder and Wilson for nothing, would you do it?

I have always liked Russell Wilson.  I have not seen enough of his games lately though.  He has clearly lost a step but there also are other issues in DEN.  I don't understand NFL contracts but it looks like he is signed through 2028 with some kind of an out before 2026?  That is an untenable contract for the Pats, no matter what the draft compensation.

If it was something where he was overpaid for 1 season or even 2 seasons, I would be interested.  Let him be the bridge to some young QB.  But not 5 seasons.
I don't think they would have all 5 years. At some point there would be dead money, but the Pats could cut him and get out of some years.

I don't think Denver would want to give up the assets to do it, but it was a thought I had and since I saw in here New England had so much cap room and could use more young players, I posed the question.

If the Pats kept Wilson for 2 years, the dead money is smaller after that, but they'd have to be interested in Wilson for 2 years (which if they traded out of the top 2 and took more of a project QB makes some sense).  So trade #2 for 3 1st's and a couple 2nd's, get Wilson and a couple of 2nd rounders from Denver (and maybe Jeudy or Sutton), and then use Wilson for a season or two while you get your young QB ready and use all those extra draft picks to surround that young QB with OL, WR, TE.  Just stock pile young guys.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Also, that scenario makes way more sense with Bill sticking around than a complete rebuild with someone else.

As I said, I don't understand all the dead money and that stuff, but if they could get Wilson for 2 seasons at about $35 per, and then not have any real dead money after that, I think it would definitely be worth pursuing.  I don't know that DEN would just give him away or attach assets, but maybe there is a broader deal possible.

And yes, that assumes that Belichick is around in some capacity for another season.  I wonder how many wins we would have this season if Wilson was our QB.  I think 6-8 is not unrealistic.  Our QB performance all season has been horrible.  Yes, we have other problems on the team but the biggest, most glaring has been the QB.  We have been worse at QB than the Jets.  You just have no way to judge the rest of the offense when the QB is that bad.

If the Raiders cut Jimmy G, I’d love the Pats to bring him back on a short term deal.

I think the worst thing the Patriots could do after killing Mac Jones’ confidence is drafting a QB prospect and start him week one.

I agree. That wouldn’t be the worst option for a bridge. Bill would love it. If he’s still here that is..

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Jimmy isn't any good at this point.  Like really bad.  Better off just putting Zappe out there again.

No.  Pats have several needs on both sides of the roster and a boatload of pending free agents.  They're projected to have a ton of cap room but have some hard decisions in front of them already with their roster.  Tying up $35M in a 35 year old Wilson isn't going to help matters, even with the perk of an additional 2nd rounder.

I'd rather have them spend around in several areas of need.  If they do decide to go the QB route with the draft, then rookie QB + additional cap space is more optimal than acquiring cap heavy Wilson + 2nd rounder.

I'm guessing they'll be cheaper stop gap QBs on the market in the offseason too.

Getting a 35 year old Wilson would be absolutely ridiculous and would make no sense for either team. Broncos have a decent chance at playoffs and a nice defense. They are unfortunately much closer to contending than the pats. (Would Wilson even report?). This is About as likely as the jets trading us Rodgers this offseason or us deciding to sign Matt Ryan off the street. As everyone else has said, getting a bridge qb like Jimmy g or minshew if we trade down to fill our massive roster holes makes some sense. Patriots trading for Wilson is like the pistons trading for Lebron right now. You definitely propose more realistic stuff for the nba than the nfl.

wasn't a trade proposal at all.  it was a hypothetical thought discussion.

Certain footballs during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-17 win over the New England Patriots last weekend were underinflated by two pounds, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels.

After complaints were made, officials took balls meant for each team’s kicking units into the locker room at Gillette Stadium at halftime Sunday. There, officials reportedly discovered the balls weighed 11 pounds per square inch. NFL rules state that balls must be inflated between 12.5 PSI and 13.5 PSI.

“They were all sitting around at 11 PSI. The threshold is usually 13.5,” a source told MassLive. “[The Patriots] told the refs they were a little underinflated or they felt that way. At halftime, they confirmed and obviously put air in them.”

It’s unclear specifically if the underinflated balls had a direct impact on the game, but both Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and Patriots kicker Chad Ryland missed field goals in the first half. Butker’s opening kickoff landed at the 3-yard line, too, despite better than 87% of his kickoffs this season reaching the end zone.

They should strip them of at least 1 or 2 wins.    ;)

Jets pulling out the win today against the Commanders is extremely unfortunate. Means we now have zero wiggle room for a top 3 pick (and likely Wiiliams/Maye). Depending on what happens tonight and the last game vs. Jets, a win slips us to 4th. They could still take Jayden Daniels but still not ideal. Hate rooting for losses but Pats future is riding on this.

The Pats on national TV on Christmas Eve …  thanks for that lump of coal, NFL. ;D

LOL, Zappe fumbles on their first play, giving Denver the ball at the NE 6.

Denver nearly throws an endzone INT, then, instead of taking the easy 3 — which might actually be enough points to beat NE — they go for it on fourth and goal and the running back trips over his own teammate and falls short. What a clown show the NFL has given us for Christmas Eve.
