Pats are still the #2 pick. Now obviously if they win one more and a handful of the 4-win teams + AZ lose out, that makes it really difficult in terms of tiebreakers. Could be as low as 6-7 if that happens.

But you can't say they didn't try. Zero 2nd half points. The INT. Tavai going offsides but somehow it being ruled a false start. Trubisky and the Steelers are just that bad  :P

Seriously, the Steelers were 7-4, and in a span of 5 days lost to TWO 2-10 teams
The Steelers are frauds. They are the least talented team that hovers near .500 the last few years. I also think Najee Harris is terrible. He reminds me of a slower, less explosive, less talented Rhamondre who has worse ball carrier vision.
which might just mean Tomlin is the best coach in the sport
That is a good point. I would trade our receiving core for theirs in a second, and you would take Watt of course. Outside of that, our roster is very similar in terms of talent. The fact that Tomlin has continued to keep the Steelers at that level is amazing (Belichick was honestly doing a similar thing before this year.)

Pats should've started Jones to secure the loss. As it was, they still almost gave the game away. They pretty much abandoned passing in the fourth, as though they thought they could run out the clock for the entire quarter.

I definitely had conflicted feelings watching this one—naturally wanting the Pats to win, but realizing that doing so would be bad for their draft odds.

Meanwhile, Steelers fan base is just losing sleep and are on suicide watch for losing to yet another 2-10 team, a team they've historically struggled beating during the Tom Brady glory days.

Thanks - I didn’t realize Pats are still in the driver’s seat for #2. Now get back to losing v. The Chiefs.

That false start call was dumbfounding.   I think it’s pretty rare for refs to call a phantom false start.  That was an enormous play.  The rest was just about how thoroughly awful Trubisky is and how weak the steeler O-line looked. The play calls on third&2 and 4th&2 were mystifying.  Trubisky throwing beyond 10 yards were hold your breath moments throughout the game. Amazing he only got picked once.
what the win really did was make #1 much less likely and took out the cushion for #2

Mo you must be happy though. Your team's one of the most hated conference rivals lost cushion for the #2 pick and your team's biggest rival lost the game.  ;)

the Pats are not a rival to Baltimore, but it is always a good day when the Steelers lose.

I suppose it used to be during the Brady days. Esp those Tom Brady vs Ray Lewis days.

Does Baltimore have a rival? I'd argue that the Ravens have had bigger games versus the Pats than any other team (2-2 in the playoffs), including the Steelers. If it's not the Steelers or Pats, who?

It's hard to say what the Patriots rival is. I don't think it's an AFC East team, including the Jets. I would maybe argue the Giants or Eagles because of the Super Bowls.

the Steelers. Both very good for a long time and plenty of playoff games (they are 1-3 against Steelers in playoffs) in addition to the 2 division games every year.

So the Chiefs are 8-4 this year. They have the best QB in the league. If you put Mahomes on this Patriots team, how many wins do you think they would have?

6 or so.  Mahomes would make everyone better and minimize the line issues

Probably 7-6 right now. There have been a few games this season where the Pats have had a chance to win late early in the year and Mac + the offense couldn't do it. I think it's different if Mahomes is there. Plus I doubt Mahomes would be having the same hideous INTs as Mac and Zappe seem to do each week.

But that said, the entire operation is dysfunctional and the roster doesn't have much talent to begin with, so even with the best QB in the league (Mahomes) it's around .500. Frankly even with Brady it's probably 7-6 or 8-5. Solid, not great. We saw glimpses of it even in the 2019 season, the reason they started 8-0 was because they literally had an extremely cupcake schedule to start. But they finished that year 4-5 including the wild card loss. Mediocre O-Line, no weapons, lot of fundamental issues. Even  Brady knew in 2019 the team wasn't it.

To jump into a sea of sacrilege, I don’t see Brady as a better qb than Mahomes - for a season. Brady is the GOAT for a career, no doubt, but for a season - there are others who were equal, maybe better, at their respective peaks - Mahomes, Montana, Marino, Peyton,….
