Idk man the Patriots got smothered by the Bears in Foxboro last year. So it won't surprise me if the Broncos/Pats game go into a 3-3 OT before losing to a Broncos TD 9-3 lol.

Broncos offense has actually been pretty good (just some really ill time turnovers).  The Broncos defense has been really bad though.  So yeah, the Pats might actually be able to score on them.

Well the Patriots weren't last. That was the Giants. Weren't 2nd to last, that was Panthers. They were 3rd to last though.  Actually a decent write up on all the teams mentioned and why they are so bad.

Speaking during the most recent episode of his SiriusXM podcast, “Let’s Go!“, Brady responded to a question about how he thinks Belichick is handling the current crisis in New England.

“I think the results are different from what they’ve been, but I know that he’s still got the same work ethic, he’s got the same coaching style,” Brady said. “I think the thing that I think as I watch not only the Patriots, but a lot of other things, football’s a hard sport. You know, it was very different when I was in there because I could control a lot of the outcome. When I’m sitting here watching from afar I realize, God, there are a lot of variables, there are a lot of things that need to go right in order to have team success.

Current Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has been criticized for his role in the disastrous 1-4 start. But as Brady pointed out, even when he was in New England (and playing at an elite level), the team succeeded or failed as a unit.

“I was a part of a lot of those teams and I didn’t take any of those things for granted. I needed a great defense. I needed a great kicker. Obviously, I needed a great coach,” Brady added. “I needed great receivers and a great O-line. If I was going to be successful as a player, I needed all those things. And I was fortunate to have a lot of those things over a long period of time.

“It takes a great coaching staff to win. It takes great players to win. It takes great front office support to win,” Brady said. “It’s an organizational win. It’s an organizational loss. To ascribe a win or loss to one player — and they did that for me a lot with winning and I always say, ‘It’s not about me, it’s about us.’ When you lose, as a leader…you take the blame and you give the credit when you win. But at the end of the day it’s a team sport.”

I'm all on board the Caleb Williams and Drake Maye train. Or if not them, I'd be fine with Ewers, McCarthy or Penix Jr. It's a very loaded draft all around, not even just at QB, but other positions too.

I was curious and even checking out some mock drafts online (which update weekly obviously depending on team positions, etc.), a few have them taking McCarthy, one of them in the 2nd round where he drops there for them to take around #35. Part of the allure is also, "Brady - Michigan alumni", and McCarthy plays for Michigan. Hmmmmm....

This is true for more or less every historic coach, though - Belicheck's record without Brady isn't great, but neither is Pop's without Duncan, Jackson's without Jordan/Kobe/Shaq, and so on.

The thing about the Pats (at least, to my memory, this may not be true for the on-the-ground fandom these days) is that big losses under Beli always felt like aberrations. One-offs that were due to be course-corrected in a week's time. Back to back beatdowns simply didn't happen. And that's a massive shift.

I think what Brady is trying to say is that for pretty much the entire time he was on the Pats, the infrastructure of the team was solid.  By infrastructure I mean defense, O-Line, Coaching, special teams, all of that was at least good and often better than good.  That infrastructure is built by the organization and orchestrated by the coaching staff.  Without the infrastructure, it doesn't matter who your QB is or how flashy your receivers are.  Brady was Brady for 20 years.  I think they still win a title or 2 maybe without him but definitely not 6 (the Patriots actually have made it to the Super Bowl without Brady).

The problem right now is that the entire infrastructure of the team is broken (in some cases literally due to injuries).  Brady sees that.  He knows that in it current state, even a prime Tom Brady wasn't going to help this team, at least not enough.  I don't know who the blame for the broken infrastructure, Belichick mostly I guess, but every good team goes through this.

They tried to fix this with a big FA class a few seasons back (Judon, Henry, etc.) but that didn't work.  Their drafting has been better the last few, but rebuilding the entire infrastructure that way takes time.  I actually think they are a few good O-Linemen away from being a good competitive team, and maybe a lucky draft or two on top of that from being a contender.  I have lost faith in Mac Jones at this point but fix the infrastructure and worry about the QB later.
