If Gallo is included in the trade and Washington buys him out, could he return to Boston if he clears waivers?

I think they added a rule that you can’t return after a buyout to the team that traded you. I don’t recall if it’s one year or the rest of the season, but some restriction was put in place to avoid any sneakiness with buyouts.

I believe that rule was made after we traded Gary Payton to the Atlanta Hawks and he returned after they waived him

Just looked it up, the player can’t resign with his previous team for 30 days

Nice. TP sir! That makes more sense. Because if all the teams passed on him then he should be allowed to come back to Boston. Not that it’s likely to happen.

If losing out on GWill and still needing a wing, I wonder if we could get J Richardson to bite on the taxpayer MLE. He’d be the perfect backup wing for this group, though he may get better offers elsewhere. One of my favorite players abd was bummed when we traded him.

What do you think of Derick Jones Jr? He’s a free agent now and could be an option too.

I think they will let Grant walk and would rather have the 5 million exception.

With that exception I would like to see them get Josh Richardson.

I initially didn't love the idea of Porzingis when I heard it - especially given his injury history.  But the more I think about he Idea the more I like it.

The Celtics are probably the perfect sport for Porzingis (and vice versa) because:

1. A bench role is starting to make sense for Horford as he's ageing and finding it harder to play big regular minutes, so a starting frontcourt sport is there for the taking.

2. The fact that we already have two strong bigs in Rob Williams and Horford means we can somewhat afford to gamble on Porzingis' injury history, because we would be depending on a three-man frontcourt rotation rather than a two-man rotation, which gives us a extra redundancy.

3. The addition of Porzingis gives likewise gives us redundancy for Rob Williams and allows Horford to fall back to a 6th man role, where he can lead the second unit and get more rest.

4. Porzingis gives us that third consistent scoring threat that we desperately need in those cases where Tatum and Brown are both struggling wiht their shots - our offensive no longer desperately relies on those two guys to be shooting well every night.

5. Porzingis gives us a guy who can get us efficient buckets inside when the outside shots arent falling, which is something we really need.  At 7'3" KP is a good 5"-6" taller then most of the small ball Cs /PFs in this league and can just shoot over most opponents inside.  His outside shot is also pretty much unblockable, so he should give us that guy who can consistently make outside shots even against some of the tougher perimeter defences - along with being able to draw opposing bigs out of the paint (opening up more rebounds for Rob/Al).

We also gain a third guy who can protect the rim and give opposing teams trouble on the defensive end - not even Embiid can shoot easily over those arms.

Sources: Wizards, Celtics and Clippers are in strong talks on a trade that would send Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, Marcus Morris and draft compensation to Washington and Malcolm Brogdon to Los Angeles. Sides are still working through details and Porzingis’ $36M player option.

So most of the draft compensation should come from LAC’s side then, as they’re clearly giving up the least amount in terms of player value. But we still have to give up something beyond Brogdon to make it work financially.
Brogdon & Gallo works on 'paper' (read: the trade machine), so you need approx 6-7 mil from somewhere.

Let’s also not forget that JB is part of the backcourt in his most natural position. If we get Zinger we’re going back to the two big lineup in some fashion, which pushes JB back to guard primarily leaving a good four man rotation of Smart, White, JB, and PP with JD as a reserve, too.

Will be interesting to see what we do with Grant.

I like this guard rotation defensively, but I really don't love the idea on the offensive side of the ball. Think JB needs to play more off the ball (or step it up a whole lot) and I'm not sure putting him at the 2 spot does that?

I agree - part of me is kinda hoping that once Brown secures his monstrous new contract (which will make him the highest paid player on the team, and maybe in the league) then maybe he'll no longer feel a need to try to compete with Tatum to prove himself, and maybe he'll be more willing to make sacrifices to fit in to his role on the team.  I'm not holding my breath on it...but I'm hopeful, because that's what this team really needs to go to the next level.

Boston should have a defined closing line up now. Last year it was scatter shot.

Smart
White
Brown
Tatum
Porzingis

Hard to say if they get someone as good or better than Grant for $5M.  I am sure they will try in the time it takes Grant to land an offer.

I will say that I’d hate to move off of Brogdon this early after what was a successful SMOY season for him.

But, I don’t know. Between his contract, fit, and our team’s overall needs, I think I’m okay with moving off of him for the Zinger.  Just seems strange that we’re all so okay with moving him after what was no doubt a successful season.

I love what Brogdon gave us last year and actually really hate moving on from him - without his production I don't think the Celtics would have had the #1 record for pretty much the entire fist half of the season.

That being said, If we are going to move on from him then I would want us to get in return a player who is capable of making just as much (if not more) impact, and even better if its a big who can add redundancy for Horford and Rob.  Porzingis definitely fits that description, so I'm pretty excited for this move if it happens - I think adding KP helps us a lot more up front then losing Brogdon hurts us in the backcourt.

Yeah, I would be happy with that.

I would be surprised if he got get more than the minimum though. I think he will prove cheaper than the taxpayer MLE but either way I would be happy with him on the roster.

Love it & can’t believe he’s only 27
Good pickup if he can stay healthy - which has always been a big if.

In today's NBA, there just aren't many guys you can say that about anymore. Even superstars like Lebron, Giannis, Curry, etc. get hurt too. Just can't predict it. Not too many "durable guys" or "iron men" out there in today's game. Plus the load management culture.

Obviously Porzingis has his injury history too, but so did Brogdon and that hurt us in the ECF.

So ironic too, given that players these days play less games, less minutes, and have better health resources then has ever been the case in the past.

I always wonder how guys like Kareem, Parish, Stockton and Malone could play 37-40 MPG over 19+ seasons and barely miss a game, while today's stars mostly play 33-36 MPG, take every 4th or 5th game off for "load management", and still can't stay healthy.

Think White made Brogdan expendable. White is a better player, is younger, better defender, never hurt. Not losing anything and White gets more minutes.
