League execs wondering about the future of Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal re-signed with the Washington Wizards last offseason on a five-year, $251 million and could be traded this offseason as Michael Winger takes over the front office. “Last week, Michael Winger, the new president of the Washington Wizards, said he has been given clearance from ownership to do a complete rebuild,” said Brian Windhorst on Get Up. “That has left everybody in the league wondering what about the future of Bradley Beal. – via RealGM

After seeing how many games Beal has missed the last two years and given his age & contract, I do not think he warrants a JB in a trade. He should be gettable for a lower package. Cap makeweights and multiple future firsts should be enough to get him. Allow WAS to rebuild properly.

That said, I am not sure I want to do that. I am not sure it is worthwhile to do that.

I like Beal as a 3rd option but I don't love him. He is basically the same as Jaylen & Tatum in terms of being an offensive engine that wants to take 20+ FGs a game. He is a small SG who doesn't impact the game much outside of his offense. He is a better passer and ball-handler than Jaylen but still fairly average. Most of his impact comes from his scoring. Here, he will have to share the ball with Jaylen and Tatum so his scoring impact will decrease due to lower volume.

I would rather a 3rd star who does something different than our two main guys. Similar to how Draymond has a completely different area of influence (team defense, rebounding, passing) than the Slash Bros (shooting, scoring).

Furthermore, Beal's contract is so huge that we would have to trade away a huge amount of our depth just to get him. Horford, Brogdon, Smart. Something like that. I am not convinced this makes us a better basketball team in the short term and and I am not convinced we will have enough cap flexability to fill those positions. I would not be surprised at all to see us acquire Beal and either make a lateral move (same level team) or take a step back (worse team) if we have to gut our supporting cast to get him.

More and more, I do not view Beal as a good target for BOS.

I saw elsewhere that Beal is one of the very few players with a no-trade clause.  That essentially means he can pick not only what destination he goes to, but can have a huge say in the compensation, too.

In other words, if Beal says "I'm only going to Boston, and I want Brown there", then Washington either makes that trade or deals with an unhappy Beal.

Theoretically, we could do Brogdon + Pritchard + Gallo + Kornet + Champagnie to make salaries work.  Of course, we'd then have a gigantically expensive team without a lot of avenues to improve.  But, among rotation players, it's Brogdon being converted into Beal.

Timelord / Horford / Kabengele
Tatum / Williams / Muscala
Brown / Hauser
Beal / White
Smart / Davidson

We'd basically have vet minimums, two-ways, and the #35 pick to fill out the roster.

Not interested in Beal.  Good player, but durability issues and not the right fit.  He needs to be the primary playmaker and we already have a better one (Tatum).

Now if WAS is going to blow it up (and that seems like the smart thing to do), I would be looking at what it might take to get Porzingis.  Not suggesting Porzingis has more value than Beal, just that he can be hopefully gotten for a lot less (not Brown) and addresses a bigger team need.

I've heard a lot of chatter about this, but I don't get it. Isn't one of the reasons to trade away JB is because of the cost of him and Tatum together? So this trade would add a player who is worse than JB, and just as expensive. How does that make sense?

If u want keep both Tatum & Brown to get Beal, u trade TimeLord, Smart, Gallinari & Kornet to make salaries trade work..but having those 3 would kill your cap in the future
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Just In: The Washington Wizards and Bradley Beal will work together to find a trade for the three-time All-Star if the team elects to reset the roster in the near future, league sources tell me and @JoshuaBRobbins.

Is Bradley Portland's guy for #3? Do they hold out and see who else might shake loose (maybe KAT)?

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington

They have the #8 pick in this year's draft. That is a pretty good pick. A good inducement to trade.

Maybe pickup Taylor-Hendricks to be our PF of the future to replace Horford in a year or two. Or Gradey Dick to be a starting caliber SF allowing us to push Tatum to PF. Or Jarrace Walker who looks a quality glue guy at PF.

I don't think people realize how bad Beals contract is...he's going to be making $57 million at age 34...

I'd really only consider a JB for Beal swap if they want to throw in the #8 pick as well and Hendricks is still on the board.

Yeah because pairing JB and JT with a ball dominant guard has worked so well for us in the past...

Beal is going to turn 30, hasn't played more than 60 games in any of the last four seasons, and is a worse defender than Jaylen. I mean idk, but I don't see the hype about trading Jaylen for him. I don't think it moves the needle tbh. Maybe it would have 2-3 years ago, but not now.

I would go after Kuzma if that's possible.

I am not sure what people feel about this, but if we really want to shake things up, the following trade works in the trade machine:

Brown, Horford and Brogdon for Beal and Porzingis

I think we give up the best player, but the package is an upgrade for us, IMO.

I could see Orlando being a dark horse.

They can offer Isaac + Harris + Anthony + 6th pick...

Fultz / Beal / Wagner / Banchero / Cater...that's a strong starting 5.
