So the Cs apparently had Glen Robinson III in for a workout recently. It’s nice to see Brad doing his due diligence as he fills out our last two roster spots. Still hoping that he gives Giles a look. I did see someone post in the NBA Offseason thread that the Warriors have interest in Blake Griffin. They were supposed to have worked out Giles so maybe he (Giles) didn’t really impress. If that’s the case then I hope the Cs pounce on Blake first as an insurance bench big.

So if all this is true, the Celtics will be able to choose between TJ Warren, Glenn Robinson III, and Lamar Stevens for a wing slot.  Robinson may be the happy medium.  More scoring punch than Stevens, still decent defense, and more reliable and predictable than Warren.

I am not worried about Blake.  Would like to have him back, don't want to see him help GSW, but his impact in any case is not that great.

I see Robinson as the "Noah Vonleh" choice.  The guy hasn't played in the NBA since 2021, and even then he only played in 23 games.

It’s a little bit different than Noah Vonleh, in that he stepped away the last two seasons partly for family reasons, but yeah, he’s a fringe player.

Here's a long article on his comeback.

He sells it as a choice.  My guess is that it's more nuanced than that, and that after he got waived, not a lot of teams expressed interest in him.

The family stuff was a custody / visitation court case involving his young daughter.

Yeah, my memory was nobody wanted him.

I did hear good things about him recently in one of those Knuckleheads podcasts where they were talking about how well he was playing and good he looked physically / athletically in practices / scrimmages.

I think it’s likely a bit of both.  Certainly if he were a rotation player he doesn’t just walk away.  At the same time, he probably has a spot on the end of a roster the last two years.

So you are suggesting that Grant at 4 years $53M or whatever is a smarter move than TJ Warren on a vet min?

No where do I suggest that.    I just meant that TJ can give you  8 points and 4 rebounds on decent three point shooting.   If anything I was hinting at the opposite and I do think a lot of these guys will D up better than Grant who defense if massively over rated here.  I think Grant is replaceable

Other than him being Tatum's buddy what are you basing this hope on?  He is just as injury prone as Porzingas without the production.

If I misunderstood, I apologize but your exact words were "classic Celtics cheap out" which I took to mean you were being critical of the Celtics not signing Grant but bringing in TJ Warren.  I think that Grant was a useful bench player, it is to be seen if TJ Warren is still that.  I just don't know what you are referring to when you say that it represents the Celtics "cheaping out".

TJ can actually replicate a lot of the offense that Grant provided but not the D.     Lamar Stevens  is an energy guy but his shooting, is suspect but allegedly he is a defender.

Vet mins for them is what I have heard and read,  classic Celtics cheap out.
TJ Warren is a significantly superior offensive player to Grant. Worse 3PT shooter, but better at just about everything else offensively speaking

Just the possibility that he may be a cheap low risk high reward guy. He was rated above JT coming out of high school, so the talent and upside is certainly intriguing. If he pans out, he could be a serviceable big at the end of the bench. He may even challenge Luke for minutes. If not then we can cut him. Oh, and he’s 2 way eligible too.

He was four years ago.  But it’s been a bit since that’s been true, unfortunately.

Well yes, when his legs work is the provision I should have added.

Bubble Warren lives on in my mind.

I meant we won't even take a look at Oubre and Wood and are trying to be cheap to meet our needs.   Everyone there is real talent out there that we ignore for whatever reason.   Offer one of these guys a chance to stay in the NBA and on a one year contract.   Their talent is much more.    I don't want to see MIA getting them  if Portland gives in the Lilliard's demands.

I would use Justin C as a great example of another Celtics cheap out.

How do you know they haven't reached out to those players? Free agency is a 2-way street, can't sign guys that don't want to play here.

30 teams have had the chance to sign Oubre and Wood, and none have, but it’s the Celtics who are cheaping out?  It couldn’t possibly be their leaguewide reputation of playing no defense, being difficult to coach, and, in the case of Oubre, taking every shot he can?  If the Celtics sign either, fine, but my guess is they haven’t passed because of cheapness, but rather because they aren’t interested.  Same as 29 other teams, including their most recent ones.

Exactly.
