Michael Scotto: Free agent forward Louis King will meet and work out for the Boston Celtics this week, league sources told @hoopshype. King recently worked out with other veterans for the Golden State Warriors. Last season, King was a two-way player for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Never heard of him before but looks like he has been a decent G-League player the last few seasons.  6'-7" undersized PF (a preferred profile for the Celtics these days).  Undrafted out of Oregon in 2019, 24 years old.  I think he is still 2-way eligible.  I don't think he has ever been on regular roster.

I wonder if the GSW work out referenced is the same one that Harry Giles attended.

With the Celtics working out all these guys, you have to wonder why they haven’t given Giles the call.

King would just be more of the same for the bench. A guy who never plays and contributes zero.

Yeah.  Hopefully Brad is just looking to fill out the G-League roster.

I would be fairly happy with Warren as a sort of Jabari Parker-esque reclamation project. Warren is better than Parker when he came here, but similar issues of injuries and defensive ability.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Pierce working out with Tatum during the off-season. Love it.

Recently, Tatum spent some time working out in Los Angeles alongside long-time trainer Drew Hanlan. However, a clip shows there was a special attendee at some of those workouts: Hall of Fame forward Paul Pierce.

“Watching JT sharpen those tools, seeing what greatness looks like,” Pierce said in Tatum’s Instagram clip.  https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwOneLOJlxR/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Pierce has been a vocal supporter of Tatum throughout his career, putting him in some lofty franchise company over this past season.

“I’m seeing his game mature right before our eyes,” Pierce said of Tatum. “He’s a lot stronger. He’s playing with a lot more confidence. The way he’s passing the ball. He’s doing a better job getting to the free throw line. He’s rebounding the ball at a high level. I already know what he’s doing as a scorer. If he can continue to play like this, sky’s the limit for him. He should be able to bring home that MVP trophy. More importantly, he’d rather bring home a championship than an MVP trophy ... he could end up the greatest Celtic to ever put on that uniform. I’m telling you, that’s what I see. He’s got that type of potential.”

Also, this commercial with the two of them is hilarious…

I would take TJ Warren for a vet min. He's not that far removed from being a useful bench contributor with Indiana, but far enough that he should have realistic expectations with regards to playing time. I doubt he breaks into our main 9 man rotation but I think he's good insurance to have if one of our wings does get hurt or need time off.

That said I wouldn't take him for the MLE (which would push us over the second apron) or our TPE. I would say the same for most of the players still out there - I don't think any of them move the needle over who we already have, for what we can afford under the second apron ($4.2m if I recall correctly). None of them would be worth breaking through the second apron for, if all they are to be is insurance.

TJ can actually replicate a lot of the offense that Grant provided but not the D.     Lamar Stevens  is an energy guy but his shooting, is suspect but allegedly he is a defender.

Vet mins for them is what I have heard and read,  classic Celtics cheap out.

So you are suggesting that Grant at 4 years $53M or whatever is a smarter move than TJ Warren on a vet min?

I think people forget that Grant had decided he didn't want to be here anymore.  That was a big part of the decision to not overpay him and force him to stay on the Celtics.  But no matter what you think of how the Grant thing went down, there is nothing wrong with bringing in TJ Warren.  How is that not "smart"?  Stevens, I don't know, maybe is a potential good deep bench guy, but why not bring in TJ Warren?  I think that is a great move to get him in to our camp, to have the best shot to sign him if he looks like he can help the team.  I suspect that if he was headed to MIL's camp or MIA's camp, that people would be critical of that, why didn't the Celtics get him.

celtic payroll is projected to be the 8th largest in the nba for 2023-24, and as 2nd largest in 2024-25.

https://hoopshype.com/salaries/

wyc seems willing to spend when he thinks the team has a shot of winning it all. that is reasonable. no one can expect ownership to ignore payroll costs each year.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't know how useful he'll be, but I like TJ Warren just for the Jimmy Butler beef.

Let him trash talk Butler from the bench as the C's sweep the Heat.

https://www.celticsblog.com/2023/8/24/23844279/report-boston-celtics-work-out-glen-robinson-iii-brad-stevens-nba-offseason-jayson-tatum

So the Cs apparently had Glen Robinson III in for a workout recently. It’s nice to see Brad doing his due diligence as he fills out our last two roster spots. Still hoping that he gives Giles a look. I did see someone post in the NBA Offseason thread that the Warriors have interest in Blake Griffin. They were supposed to have worked out Giles so maybe he (Giles) didn’t really impress. If that’s the case then I hope the Cs pounce on Blake first as an insurance bench big.

Blake would be good in GSW's offense with his passing. Similar to what David West brought to them years ago. Or David Lee. As backup centers.

So if all this is true, the Celtics will be able to choose between TJ Warren, Glenn Robinson III, and Lamar Stevens for a wing slot.  Robinson may be the happy medium.  More scoring punch than Stevens, still decent defense, and more reliable and predictable than Warren.

I am not worried about Blake.  Would like to have him back, don't want to see him help GSW, but his impact in any case is not that great.

I see Robinson as the "Noah Vonleh" choice.  The guy hasn't played in the NBA since 2021, and even then he only played in 23 games.

It’s a little bit different than Noah Vonleh, in that he stepped away the last two seasons partly for family reasons, but yeah, he’s a fringe player.
