I think this has to be it for Brad. We essentially traded Smart and Grant for Porzingis.

Unless this team makes a massive trade, the team got worse with a thin bench. Still got a banged up Brogdon too.

Does trading Grant really mean that the Celtics don’t want to cross that second apron? What if there’s an incoming trade for a serviceable guy that actually does make us breach the second apron? This is of course assuming that Brad has the green light to spend. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense as I don’t really understand the intricacies of our salary cap situation. Just saying maybe Brad is in the hunt for a Grant upgrade this the abundance of second round picks.

I mean, is it possible there’s someone making $6.2 million or less whom we can acquire for similar compensation to what we just received for Grant?  Sure, that’s possible, I guess.  But the more likely scenario is we’re avoiding the second apron, which I think is really short-sighted and inconsistent with having added so much payroll in trading for Porzingis while also sacrificing depth.

That’s the confusing part. Getting KP looks like an “all in” move, but we’ll need a serviceable bench to make this work. Unless they plan to just cruise by the regular season ala Miami and just make noise in the playoffs?
What defines a "serviceable" bench? We have 3 guys who will likely look at 35+MPG in the playoffs (JT, JB, KP), 2 more in the 30-35 range (White & Brogdon, 2 more in the 25-30 range (Horford & Rob Williams), and 2 more who can fill in spot 10 or so spot minutes (Hauser & PP). Is that not a fairly normal group for a playoff run? 7 core guys, 2 on the periphery?

That’s for the playoffs. I think we’ll see a lot of load management/DNPs with the likes of Rob, Al, KP, Malcolm, and even the Jays during the course of the regular season. Ideally we’d have some vets who can jump right in if need be. I’m particularly concerned wih our bigs rotation. RW/Al/KP is a solid but fragile rotation. Someone like Saric could certainly help. I was hoping we’d keep Grant for that purpose. We still have Luke but I feel we could still do better.

Brisset will be a valuable bench piece too. Mark words!!
I agree, I think Brissett & Kornet are okay as 10th and 11th guys. I would prefer a more capable big/swing type to push Brissett down a spot, but I'm not too worried.

So Brad went from hero with the KP trade to zero with the GWill trade  :police:

I guess you're only as good as your last trade

Yeah, I will be fine with Jones Jr and/or Javonte while they are at it, as I posted before do not think Celtics will have the tMLE unless they move off a Pritchard or Brogdon. Not sure it matters either.

looking at it from one perspective it makes sense. Grant is our 4th big and wouldnt see much playing time. so, is your 4th big worth $13.5million a year and an additional $40million in luxury tax payments and hitting the second apron? Probably not.

the problem is we lost Muscala and Gallo. So, Brad needs a PF to take over those 15minutes a night Grant would play. Could Blake Griffin come back in an expanded role off the bench? who else is out there?  if we still had Muscala or Gallo you would look at it as "okay one of them will play a bigger role"

Clippers trade really screwed us. we would have smart/Muscala right now and only Brogdon/Gallo out if they didn't back out.

I don't think Brad is done. Supposedly they told Beverly to wait on the grant situation. So, now we may see them make moves. I also don't think Brad is getting all these 2nd rounders just to keep. its all trade bait.

If we get someone like Oubre with the $5million MLE and a vet min power forward maybe it looks abit better.

I think Brad is done. Off-season started out well with KP trade but I question everything else he has done. Trading out of the first round, signing two players that really are not any good and drafting a player that cannot shoot. Acquiring so many second round picks.

This team is worse today if this is it. Bench is in shambles.

I think Brad is done. The Grant deal was a money-thing. Maybe resign Blake, but I would not be at all surprised if the roster you see now is what we will get.  The silver lining would be more playing time for the young group (Davison, Walsh) which is something C's have not done much in recent years.

They will have almost all of the TPMLE.  They’ve got about $4.4 million now — they can get up to about $4.8 million by releasing Kornet (even if they just resign him to a one year deal).

I still think Trendon Watford could be a cheap replacement for Geant, at least offensively.  The only team I've seen connected to him is Chicago.

I don't think Brad is done.  I think we get involved in the Dame deal, but as a third or fourth team.

-TPE won’t be used
-Brad won’t sign anyone else because he will claim he wants roster and cap flexibility through out the season to make deals. He said this last season and didn’t do anything regular season.

Brad thinks he can do what Miami does signing guys that are basically g leaguers and get away with it.

-your main bench 5 will be:
Brogdan (if he is healthy;PP he isnt).
Banton
Hauser
Brissett
Al or Rob

Walsh, Kornet and Davison are all towel wavers that won’t see the floor unless it’s a blowout. Walsh and Davison probably on two way deals.

That leaves you one roster spots. One will be filled by some summer league scrub (champaigne) or one will be left open for “future considerations”.

Boston’s bench would be one of the worst in the league. Flush with g league players and guys that can get hurt at an instant.

Why on earth is Banton ahead of Pritchard??

So you think PP and brogdan will play together in the back court? I don’t. That would be a very small line up

And I think PP ends up being the back up PG because brogdan is/will be injured meaning someone has to spell JB ( hence me putting Banton into the rotation)

How is it small? It’s an average sized PG and a slightly above average size SG. Do you think the NBA does 5 player line swaps? We have a much bigger team this season

They don’t do 5 man line changes like the NHL?? I didn’t realize that!!

I think Banton might be better equipped to guard big wings than brogdan or PP.

Read a lot on here that Brogdan struggled defensively. Plus him being hurt will force someone to take those minutes.
