Updating the roster score board again, based on the clarifications regarding Davison's QO, I think this is where we stand:

White         Pritchard        Banton
Brown        Brogdon         Champagnie (NG)
Tatum        Hauser           Brissett
Porzingis    (Grant)           OPEN
Horford       RWilliams      Kornet (NG)

2-way (assumed):  Davison  Walsh  OPEN

We have one fully open roster spot as well as 2 that could easily be opened up by waiving either Champagnie (very likely) or Kornet (I suspect he makes the cut again).

Option 1:  Sign Grant and pick up a vet min  for the open spot (maybe even Griffin again)
Option 2:  Sign and trade Grant for up to 2 players to fill the spots.

In both cases, we simply continue to have Champagnie and Kornet keep the roster spots warm and then cut either to upgrade if a better option is available.

I think we are in pretty good roster shape.  The second apron and tax maybe not so much but the roster looks really good to me.

Updating my update, here is where we stand:

White         Pritchard        Banton
Brown        Brogdon       Champagnie (NG)
Tatum        Hauser           OPEN
Porzingis    Brissett          OPEN
Horford      RWilliams     Kornet (NG)

2-way (assumed):  Davison  Walsh  OPEN

I feel like 1-7 (bold) are very solid, probably the best top 7 in the league.  I have Pritchard, Hauser, and Brissett (8-10) all in the same category or level.  They are useful regular season players who will likely play consistent minutes (maybe in the 15 min range) but all would be kind of on the bubble in terms of being playoff depth.  I suspect we will add a second team PF, ideally one that could be in the 1-8 range rather than the 8-11 range.  To me, that is the key add.  We have a TPE, some of the MLE, and vet min contracts.  If we could get a Grant level PF out of that somehow, I don't think you can ask for more out of your top 8.

The bottom 4-5 is sketchy right now and probably largely incomplete.  I have no idea what we will get from Banton but I feel that Kornet is a useful "in case of emergency" end of the bench type player.  Griffin is still out there and he may be someone to add to the bottom 4-5.  We have 2 open slots and Champagnie could be easily cut.  I am hoping one of these open slots becomes a rotation level PF (Grant replacement).  That would still leave us a couple of slots to add vet min players, how about Griffin and Oubre?

White         Pritchard           Banton
Brown        Brogdon            Hauser
Tatum        Oubre                Brissett
Porzingis    (Trade or MLE)    Griffin
Horford       RWilliams          Kornet

2-way (assumed):  Davison  Walsh  OPEN

A question, could we trade for Muscala (use part of Grant TPE)?  Offer WAS a second round pick to get him back?  I was actually thinking about this in terms of Gallinari but he is a little higher than the TPE.

I wish the Celtics would make a move on siakim. But I don’t think Brad will.

I don't see the Celtics taking on another large salary. Siakam makes almost $40m this year and is in line for max money after that.

If anything, I can see moving Brogdon for 2 smaller contracts to fill in some depth. But I don't think they're going to go more top heavy.

You probably are correct. If Brogdan is moved its going to be for 2 bench pieces.

New from @adamhimmelsbach: The Celtics have no intention of entering the Damian Lillard sweepstakes, according to league sources.

I agree, but I still think they get involved in a larger three or four team deal to make it happen.

Other than moving brogden I’m not sure Boston does much of anything else. At this point I’m not interested in just dumping brogdan for more role players

That is disappointing. I would have loved to have traded Jaylen for Lillard. Our title chances would be much improved.

Another SF.

We already have Hauser, Brisset, Danton, Jordan Walsh.

Can we get a / target a bench player that plays somewhere else please?

I sort of get the approach tbh. If you can't afford a true elite 3+D guy then bring in a bunch of guys with varied skills. Hauser is a shooter, Walsh has huge defensive upside, Danton has operated some with the ball in his hands, Brisset is an energy guy who's shot better in the past than he did last year. Hope one of the guys in that mix figures it out.

Sounds like Brown supermax finalized within days.

I'm still interested in what's taking so long. If its going to be the full 35% max then what is there to negotiate exactly? That leads me to believe there must be some negotiating going on. Will they get him to take a little less (like 32-33%)? Will there be options, an ET), trade kickers, ect? Or is all this just because he was on vacation?

I think it was because he was going on vacation, and everyone’s in Vegas this week so might as well do it in person so you can have a press conference.

ya I guess but the guy has an agent, and telephones exist, if the offer is just "hey, here's a 35% max" whats the negotiation? A player option seems to be the only thing that could be a sticking point.

I have a different view of this:
  • Hauser is a SF, 100%
  • Brissett I view as a Power Forward. 7 foot wingspan. Played 90%+ of his minutes last year as a power forward in Indiana. He's used to that role. I view him as a smaller alternative to playing a two-huge lineup depending on who the other team has. He's there to play against guys like Lebron, Aaron Gordon, Draymond Green. Power forwards who are too quick for our other bigs to guard and too strong for Tatum or Hauser to guard. He can obviously play small forward as well, but his offensive limitations stick out more in that role. I'm not sure that suits him.
  • Banton I haven't watched as much of but my impression is he's a ballhandler -- more of a point guard. Shaun Livingston type. He can defend across the board but he's not a forward. I could be wrong on that but that's how it's been reported.
  • Jordan Walsh is a small forward...for the team in Maine.

So I'm not sure I see a glut at small forward. I just see a lack of higher end talent in general, but the supposed pieces are spread out. It's a bit of Toronto philosophy -- Banton, Brissett can guard numerous positions but they belong at different spots.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Why does Brad take on these reclamation projects when the outcome is always the same?
