Brogdon's issue has always been injuries. For a team in win now mode I would like to have a bench scorer I know that is available. Hield doesn't miss games.

That's because he hasn't played in Boston.  The second he was traded here he'd miss 50 games and would be a shell of himself in the playoffs.  It's how things work.

Interesting that it was kind of the opposite for Brogdon.  He was healthy and very productive for the team all season and all playoffs expect for the last series.  That seems to be what is left in everyone's mind, understandably, that he got hurt.  But even Tatum got hurt in the playoffs.  It happens.  I don't know how well Brogdon is going to hold up but it seems that being 6th man gives them more flexibility to manage him through the season.

As to Hield, I like the player fine.  All the reports are that he is on the market and open to a trade.  He is an established and consistent (and historically durable) player.  But a trade to the Celtics makes no sense for either team.  IND does not want Brogdon, so at best it would need to be a 3 way trade.

But unless Brogdon is still really mad about the almost-trade, or they know something about his injuries that is not public knowledge, I would rather have Brogdon over Hield.  There was debate in another thread over Porzingis being more important than Brown because other players can do what Brown does.  Hield would be just more of that.  Brogdon is a really good PG; that isn't his only ability, but it is why he is a so much better fit than Hield would be.  And Brogdon was actually better from 3 last season than Hield, 44.4% vs. 42.5%.

A couple of notes from Adam Himmelsbach:

Quote
▪ The Celtics’ social media team has posted plenty of pictures and videos of these workouts and players’ Boston arrivals. But there has been no sign of guard Malcolm Brogdon.

Brogdon and his camp have been quiet this summer, and members of the Celtics front office have mostly avoided or deflected questions about the Sixth Man of the Year. Something about the situation just feels slightly off.

But the indications I’ve gotten are that the Celtics are not considering trading Brogdon any more than they are considering trading any other player. His sour ending to last year aside, it is worth remembering Brogdon’s value to the Celtics last year. And Smart’s departure figures to only increase his role.

Media day is scheduled for Oct. 2, so there will at least be some clarity then.

Quote
▪ Porzingis, the team’s splashy offseason acquisition, arrived in Boston Wednesday. Porzingis missed Latvia’s World Cup appearance because of plantar fasciitis but stayed with the team in the Philippines for support.

He has been doing some light on-court work as he ramps up for training camp.

If Brogdon still hasn't recovered, he doesn't have really any trade value so its not surprising they'd hold onto him for the time being. As far as issues with the team's medical staff, that's certainly happened before with this organization.  I guess we'll find out come media day. The 'I'm upset about being offered in a deal' stuff doesn't bother me because that's the business and Brogdon's been in that business for a lot of years.

The Porzingis thing worries me though. This guy has a history of injuries and 7 ft + foot problems is never a great equation.

Free agent G/F Lamar Stevens has agreed to a deal with the Boston Celtics, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Stevens established himself as a defensive presence for the Cavs, starting in 25 of 62 games last season. Agent Scott Nichols completed deal with Celtics officials.

I’ll take it. Shown he’s capable of being on the floor and being a back end rotation player.

Stevens will be a grinder. I prefer him making the team over Banton. Both probably stick. Stevens has starting experience and is decent defensively

Maybe by bringing in so many suspect shooters Brad is trying to force Joe to diversify the offense, haha.

I’d be glad to have Blake back. Wonder what’s going on there.

I think he’s going to sit out until after the deadline and then sign with a team, like PJ Brown did in 08.  Sounds like his body is shot and he needs longer to recover between seasons.  If the Celtics have an open roster spot and are playing well, I think there would be mutual interest, but it’s certainly not a lock he returns.
