Brogdon's issue has always been injuries. For a team in win now mode I would like to have a bench scorer I know that is available. Hield doesn't miss games.
That's because he hasn't played in Boston. The second he was traded here he'd miss 50 games and would be a shell of himself in the playoffs. It's how things work.
Interesting that it was kind of the opposite for Brogdon. He was healthy and very productive for the team all season and all playoffs expect for the last series. That seems to be what is left in everyone's mind, understandably, that he got hurt. But even Tatum got hurt in the playoffs. It happens. I don't know how well Brogdon is going to hold up but it seems that being 6th man gives them more flexibility to manage him through the season.
As to Hield, I like the player fine. All the reports are that he is on the market and open to a trade. He is an established and consistent (and historically durable) player. But a trade to the Celtics makes no sense for either team. IND does not want Brogdon, so at best it would need to be a 3 way trade.
But unless Brogdon is still really mad about the almost-trade, or they know something about his injuries that is not public knowledge, I would rather have Brogdon over Hield. There was debate in another thread over Porzingis being more important than Brown because other players can do what Brown does. Hield would be just more of that. Brogdon is a really good PG; that isn't his only ability, but it is why he is a so much better fit than Hield would be. And Brogdon was actually better from 3 last season than Hield, 44.4% vs. 42.5%.
