i don’t mind JT celebrating, but considering how he has played most of this postseason, as well as the finals, and considering basketball is a team sport, the celebration of his box score isn’t a great look.

If not being falsely modest fuels him playing like he has the past 5 quarters, more power to him.

I mean, P.J. Tucker of all people was giving us the "too small" gesture.  Niang grabbed JB from the bench.  JT can celebrate as he wants to.

So when the opponent acts like a horse's ass, our players should respond in kind ?

Behaving with some integrity is not "false modesty."

One great quarter and a great Game 7 and Tatum starts acting like Lebron James.
Stay humble. Quit pointing at yourself and quit holding up the number 50 (points).
Cannot stand all that from other players, Tatum's been pretty good about not falling in love with himself to this point.
Please don't start now.

bastion of negativity is absurd. like a lot of us, tenn has offered substantive criticism of JT, which has been warranted.

i don’t mind JT celebrating, but considering how he has played most of this postseason, as well as the finals, and considering basketball is a team sport, the celebration of his box score isn’t a great look.

the dude was phenomenal tonight but we need consistency from him the remainder of this postseason.

I must have missed what he said.  The Tatum interview I saw was grounded.  Not exactly humble I guess but far from over the top.  I also didn't think the "I'm one of the best Bball players in the world" comment was all that bad.  The way he said it was stating a fact to hold himself to a standard.  He also said that he wasn't very good the first half of G6.

I know I say this type of thing a lot, but sometimes I have to remind myself that he's 25.  I guess I have different expectations for 25 year olds than I do for 35 year olds -- and maybe a different view than other posters.  I have 2 very responsible daughters - 28 and 32 - and, yeah, they're young. Most guys at 25 don't have a mature perspective on life - I get that when you've have a spotlight on you your whole life, you have practice that others don't have -- but still, 25 is 25.   They can be skilled and smart and some are wise beyond their years, but I always cut slack (especially when we're just talking about post-game interviews) for younger guys.  Frankly, 35 is still young too (it's all relative), but 25 is really young.

Yes the writing on the wall that Doc will be fired. There are a couple decent coaches out there. Smart had Maxey's jersey so I am guessing they swapped jerseys?

The defense on Embid was spectacular primarily by Big Al with Timelord in the background and the guards reaching low for the ball. Fantastic. I stillcan't believe they kept the T on JB after seeing why he had something to say. NBA needs to fix things like that.

Yeagmh that was madness. Apparently sideline players can interfere with on-court players with basically no repercussions. Should have been an ejection.

Meanwhile we're getting called for clear path fouls and take fouls left and right

I'm just glad we have at least another 1.5 to 2 weeks of Celtics basketball.

Especially after the Bruins lost early themselves in the postseason

I think Tatum does celebrate a little too much. Gotta keep your head in the game. But what a game. 51 points and no turnovers.

i don’t think it was what he said; i believe tenn was responding to JT holding up five fingers and a fist, when he exceeded the 50pt mark during the game. honestly, i didn’t care for it, either.

that said, you make a fair point about JT being 25.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the problem. There are hundreds of players in the NBA who celebrate after a big game, some who look like lunatics doing so too. And a lot of them haven't won anything either or haven't even been in the playoffs often. But if JT does it, it's a problem? So is it an issue if Butler yells and screams after some big plays in a big game? He hasn't won anything either.

This isn't directed at you or anyone in particular, just my own opinion.

key word being “after” in this particular context…at least from my perspective.

My comments were aimed specifically at the on-court behavior, not Tatum's interviews.

We have watched Lebron James do the same sort of things after beating Boston and he caught hell in this forum.
I was complimentary of Tatum during this game thread (look at my comments), but I don't like crass self-congratulations.
I'm happy with Tatum showing emotion, that is different than pointing at himself.

He gets criticized if he doesn't show emotion. He gets criticized if he does.

Some people are just going to complain for the sake of complaining.
