I have always liked White, I think he was and is a good fit for the team.   He is a smart player and defender.   He must have shot til his fingers bled this summer and it shows.

If Smart and White were both about to become free agents and you could only keep one, who would it be?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Smart but White would have a strong case.  But if we’re down 2 late in the game, I’d still expect Smart to make a defensive miracle play more than I would White.

What would the contracts look like?

Identical four-year contracts beginning next season.

White, mostly because of health.  I'm low-key a bit worried that Smart is a guy who ages quickly.  He has a reckless quality to his game and he has collected more than his share of minor injuries over the years as a result.  Those add up.

Good problem to not have though.  I really like them both.  Happy to have both locked down for a while, and Brogdon too.

DWhite has been Jrue-esque over the last 10 games:

21-5-6 on 49-43-88 shooting splits with elite defense.

If Rob doesn’t start looking better soon I would start White over him, and not to be a jerk, but do what is necessary to get Rob healthy so he can actually jump and do more than shoot/pass up layups on offense.

I’d like to see video of the Rob mistake last night. Seemed so blatant at the time - I was watching sound off so I don’t know what the commentators said, but he had an absolutely easy, virtually uncontested dunk available and he kicked it to the corner for a missed 3. That also kicked off a Milwaukee run.

Thanks C2021. That’s what I was going to say.

I remember Al doing a similar thing last year. He had the wide open reverse lay up but saw a free man in the corner and passed the  ball. The difference being the guy who took the three pointer made the shot. Still that created quite a debate in the game thread. I didn’t see the play but maybe Rob didn’t know he was all alone? And seeing the open guy meant giving the extra pass? Our offense does seem to love the open three pointer.

not quite as bad as Simmons but both he and Al will get the ball in the lane either via the pass or dribble and look to pass rather than finish.  teams are playing for the pass and picking some of them off or running out to the 3 right away to guard the shooter rather than come to the lane to help on Al/Timelord.  I see that as a real flaw in this offensive scheme

Smart, and it’s an easy pick for me. DPOY who routinely comes up with the big plays. He injects energy which the team sometimes needs.

Now, if it’s just for the final possession, I’ll take White because he’s a better shooter and the ball will probably be in Tatum’s hands anyway.
