How is Dallas going to acquire Davis. They have no good players they can trade and no high end draft capital. And the Lakers can basically just sign Irving so a sign and trade doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't be all that surprised to see LA move on from Davis this summer, but Dallas would be way down the list of teams that could reasonably acquire him.
The obvious answer is a Kyrie sign-and-trade.
The Lakers don't need to do that though. They can sign Kyrie to close to a max without trading AD.
Lakers are much better off shipping AD somewhere else to get actual and real assets for him, and then just signing Irving in free agency.
Why would you add Kyrie and then trade AD? How does that make them better.
My post wasn't clear, I was meaning they would be better off signing Irving and trading AD somewhere else as opposed to trading AD in a sign and trade for Irving (along with draft picks or other things from the Mavs). They'd get more assets and players by just signing Irving.
I think they are better off just keeping AD if they sign Irving in free agency, but there is a real availability concern with that team so maybe they'd feel better off with a talent downgrade with healthy players and more long term draft assets to allow for more trading. Like sending AD to the Nets for Bridges and a couple of 1st's. Something like that. Or AD to the Suns for Ayton, Shamet, Payne. Or the Heat for Bam. Or Boston for Smart, Rob, Gallo, and a 1st. Or countless other potential trades.
I just don't think Davis ending up in Dallas, this summer, is realistically likely.
