I don't see Reddish as an upgrade over Hauser.

Better to stand still with what we got.

Even if Reddish is behind Hauser in the rotation, I think he's got value for two reasons:

1.  In case of injury.  We could use another backup wing who is better than Justin Jackson;

2.  To use the expiring TPE.  It expires on 1/19/22.  Trading for somebody now would at least allow us to preserve the salary spot.

Reddish isn't #1 on my list, but I'd rather have him than nobody.

this is about where I'm at on this option.  Reddish is underwhelming but still better than Jackson.   if Reddish can't give us more than Jackson has, let him walk at the end of the year.  going to lose the TPE anyway so there's really not a downside to this deal unless you consider 2 second rounders a huge investment.

Perhaps C's want to lose TPE in order keep the overall salary structure down.

This will probably end up being the case.  Wyc may say that Brad doesn't have a budget, but I don't believe it.  Letting the $17 million TPE expire was a mistake, and I'm guessing that they'll do the same thing with the $6.9 million TPE.

Two seconds isn't a huge investment, but Boston's also very short on seconds rounders out to 2028, so there's the opportunity cost of deals you can't do in the future because you burned those picks a different way. If Boston had minutes available for Reddish I'd be interested, but I think he'd just wind up a malcontent with not enough playing time in a rental situation.

Reddish needs to go somewhere like Charlotte where they can just throw him out there and see what happens.

I see it a little differently.  First, there is an opportunity cost with the 2 second round picks or whatever the assets going back are.  If you use them on Reddish, and all he ends up doing is sitting on the bench, it is a lost opportunity.  Letting the TPE expire is also a lost opportunity so that is fair.

The main thing I seem to differ on is the idea that this would still be a good deal, to give up two low value picks and pay the salary/tax, even if Reddish ends up behind Hauser (meaning on the bench, not contributing).  At that point, the only argument is that he is better injury insurance than Jackson.  If that is the case, I say keep the seconds and aim higher.  Let the TPE expire if there is nothing better in the next 9 days or whatever.

If we could get Reddish for picks with conditions that would prevent them ever conveying (so essentially accept him as just a salary dump), even then, I don't see the point unless you are fairly sure that he is actually going to be something more than just injury insurance.  It is almost certain that he is better than Jackson but if that is all we get, a better, more expensive towel waver, no sense in doing the deal.

if we could get him as a salary dump, which would be $ coming to us to pick up the cost of his deal, then swell.  I don't think that's likely though.

the likelihood we could flip 2 seconds into a different deal for a better player is not something I see as probable.  the upside on this is not insignificant if Reddish gets it together.  if he commits to playing hard for a team considered to be a contender, we've done well with the deal.  if he's just better than Jackson and can't beat out Hauser, then we still have a better back up.  Reddish does have the athleticism to be useful in the right situations regardless.

So much potential in Reddish.  He just can't seem to sustain quality minutes.
Yup

During his 27 years of NBA experience, Gregg Popovich has lived through three different eras of the league’s basketball. He recently took his signature jab at the current state of the NBA. “It’s much more difficult to play defense these days with so many people that can shoot threes. The quantity is massive and they come pretty quickly so people are going to score, that’s just the way it is,” the legendary coach said. “Averages are going to go up. You can still work on half-court defense but in transition, when people can spread the court the way NBA players can now and from the distance the shoot, it’s obviously an advantage,” he explained.

“I’ve said before – I’m just hoping that the league ends up with a 4-point shot or a 5-point shot so we can make it a real circus,” Popovich said. “Then it will be a different sport, it won’t even be basketball, it would just be a bunch of crap.” – via BasketNews

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

He is pretty right , same as NFL …..I ve always hated offense having it easy , I like to see offense player in major sports have to earn his glory…..I liked defense even a a little kid.  I liked the ruff housing . I’m guessing in a few years I ll have nothing but hockey to see any defense.
