Did you guys see the tweet I shared? A few weeks ago ben simmons told beal he would bet him 5k he would make both free throws. The shut up the rest of the game when he missed. Are we really supposed to feel bad for someone acting this way? It’s just obnoxious behavior.

I am not suggesting that you should or shouldn't feel bad.  I pointed out that I understand some of his actions make it hard to feel sorry for him.  I am just saying that I am sympathetic.  And not feeling sorry for him is different than piling on or calling him obnoxious.  Again, this is a fan forum, people call it like they see it.

As to the tweet you reference, Beal countered "make it $20k".  Did you find that obnoxious too?  Neither bothered me really.  Just a form of trash talk between multi-millionaires.  I can imagine it happening with Bird or Jordan or a lot of NBA players.

It’s way more obnoxious to bring up the bet out of the blue than to say double or triple it. Was that a serious question?

Simmons has only attempted 1 free throw in the entire month of February, in 96 minutes of play.  His level of passivity is embarrassing.  He won’t even take it the the rim any more for fear of getting fouled and going to the line.

Yeah he is a soft player. I don’t get why we can’t just call it like this in 2023. We have to just assume he is mentally impaired because he isn’t a top 200 NBA player? Is this some “woke” stuff?

It's a shame Vaughn didn't call more timeouts so the Bulls would go cold and the Nets could magically kickstart a run of their own.

He must have left his magic timeout wand at home.   ;D

This kings/clips game is insane. 176 to 175 kings in 2OT with 36 seconds to go!

Clipps had a 5 p lead but coughed it up in less than a minute and Kawhi not having the last shot...what was that?

Kings have a very good squad heading to the playoffs..i hope for their success out west..they jave suffered for so long.

I don’t have any idea what Simmons’ mental health issue is.  Believing his behavior is impacted by his mental health (e.g. anxiety or depression) is an opinion which shouldn’t  be marginalized with “woke” accusations. Similarly, your opinion to consider it a character flaw rather than a mental health issue should be respected.

Yeah, really likable team, too.

That said, I think second round is probably their ceiling, and that may even be tough given how much depth and parity there is in the West. Think their style isn't geared towards postseason success.

I think that's the first time in NBA history where the final score for both teams ended in the 175+ in a regular season game? Or could be the first time in many decades.

That Kings-Clippers score is insane

Now I wish that went 3 OT so the final score would be like 202-200 LOL

I am not really even sure what you are referencing here. I thought it was the opposite of this where you said he had a serious mental health issues and I said he didn’t. That seems in line with what I believed then and now. He was running around practice with a phone in his pocket and I definitely remember saying there was no way the league would allow them to withhold his game checks if he had a real mental issue. I know you have been taking your lumps on here recently for your contrarian takes but don’t bring me up with false facts. Thank you.

Edit. I found it.
https://www.libertyballers.com/2022/3/8/22967669/ben-simmons-sixers-grievance-nets-james-harden

I know some took it as evidence he really had issues that prevented him from being around the town, but it was always reported he was trying to get money back. Will be interesting to see how it goes I would be a bit surprised if he won to be honest. Players association isn’t exactly a weak union and they allowed Philly to do this.

It’s very bizarre to me that people think it is justifiable for simmons to pack up his bag and go home cause of two tepid comments after a tough loss in a series he played awful.

Two points to make here. If Simmons had a physical injury causing him to miss the season, we are not having this conversation. He has a mental injury and of course many do not acknowledge mental health as a real issue.

Second point, I can’t help but think Doc Rivers has something to do with the intransigence of the Sixers in this situation. This is the same guy that led players to Dallas to force a free agent to reverse his commitment to another team. The guy just doesn’t like to lose cherished players and he knows how valuable Simmons is to the Sixers.
Jesus is this first part of this an awful take (and I say that as someone that lost their mom to depression). Simmons has leaked he will be ready to play in a week or two after being traded (physical conditioning). This is not how mental illness works. Secondly, he is not doing the conditions that need to be met to verify his mental illness (which for jobs are pretty minimal, and he is part of an extremely powerful union in the players association). The healthcare company I used to work with worked with a lot of nba players to reduce stigma surrounding mental health including Kevin love and Gordon Hayward. The nba has made a ton of progress on mental health (still some work to go) but there is no way simmons is losing every single game check if he was doing even the bare minimum for treatment. In most cases you only have to provide a monthly update to your employer. His actions make an absolute mockery of the progress that has been made around stigma and for anyone that has had to take disability from work for something related to mental health (which I did after the event with my mom). Please don’t defend this behavior on simmons it’s a really terrible thing. I’ll also add if all the above isn’t showing what a sham this was he has mentioned 8 other reasons before mental health and the timeline connecting his mental health comments and lost paychecks is a straight line.

Also are you aware he recently got caught running full court games with Dion waiters and other former players and was told by his agency to stop doing it cause it was making a mockery of his claims?

So just to recap this I literally spent all of last season with the consistent viewpoint that simmons did not have a legit mental health issue that caused him to miss games. You owe me an apology here if you are capable of that. I really don’t get how calling simmons soft is in even 1% in disagreement with anything I said last seasons. I don’t know if you mixed me up with another poster or just flat out lied. Calling me a hypocrite and making up things I said was out of line.

Clay, there were others, but you absolutely came after me when I said he didn't have a mental illness and his environment and not liking his coworkers was the main issue he was having in Philly.  You are correct you definitely had concerns about him faking it, so if I certainly could have worded my statement better and for that I apologize.  I just get tired of your crap with regards to me and I really wish you'd stop responding to me entirely, as I've done with you until now.  I will go back to doing that.  It is just better ignoring your nonsense.

For example

I said it when he first reported and got criticized heavily on this board for saying it, but a large part of his mental health issues were him being in an environment and with coworkers he didn't like.  While a change of environment and coworkers isn't going to fix everything, when your issues are brought on and significantly exacerbated by your environment, changing your environment does wonders for your mental health.

You were rightfully criticized. I know we disagree on a lot of topics, but you are just flat out wrong on this one, and ben simmons has done some degree of damage to stigma surrounding mental health with his actions. It really is an awful thing he did to try and get money. Some issues really don’t need a contrarian take.
