Hawks coach Nate McMillan has been dismissed per Woj.

Guess the Hawks couldn't stand losing despite them making it to the conference finals a couple years ago

Trae did not always get a long with Nate. I’m not surprised by this. Wonder if they go after Udoka.

That’s an interesting take. Ime may be able to whip this team up to be a reall threat. They do have the tools in Trae, Dejounte, Capela, Collins. Collins in particular has been under utilized by Nate.

Quinn Snyder seems to be the top choice, as well as the lead assistant in Milwaukee, whose name I’m blanking on but am too lazy to look up.  I’ve got the name Charles Lee in my head but that’s probably because I’ve been listening to Hamilton lately.

Ime is in their shortlist of candidates. If he gets the job, I hope we don’t face them in the first round of the playoffs. The last thing we need is an added distraction.

Marc Stein: Among the candidates being considered for the Hawks’ coaching vacancy, league sources say, is former Celtics coach Ime Udoka. More NBA from me: marcstein.substack.com – via Twitter TheSteinLine

Thought Ime still suspended by the Celtics so he can't go anywhere this season

They released him when Joe became the official head coach.

The Hawks are in formal discussions with former Jazz coach Quin Snyder and are hoping to swiftly hire him as their new head coach, per @Shams Charania.

Snyder's a good coach. I was surprised no one hired him but maybe he decided to take a break himself. That said, I just think the Hawks roster is poorly constructed. I'm a big Trae Young fan, but he probably just isn't an alpha on a championship team. Collins has also regressed a bit (maybe due to coaching/scheme?). Their defense is also really bad, they tend to let opponents put up 115+ on them regularly (hell, the C's put up nearly 130 I believe earlier in the year)

The Hawks kind of just feel like they are in no-man's land

I like Snyder as well. Glad he’s (likely) getting the opportunity over Udoka.

Agreed.  IMO he's a better coach then Ime as the moment as well.  Ime will most likely have a long career when he's given another chance but it seems teams are investigating the Ime issue and are passing on him when they receive info if that's what happened with the Nets and now the Hawks.  if the issue is much worse then reported he may need to wait another year before the smoke clears a bit for him to get an opportunity.  I'm sure someone is sitting on the full info and as soon as he's hired this will get leaked.  Just my opinion but one that I can see happening.  He will get another shot though.  Some other coaches like Kidd and Billups who have gone through scrutiny have gotten other opportunities.

Will also be interesting to see how Udoka does without a Smart, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Timelord starting lineup. I think he will be a good, not great coach.

It seems too late for any coach to have a real impact this season with the Hawks.  It is not like McMillan is a bad coach.  I know sometimes there is a spark or whatever when a coach is changed but I don't see that happening with this team this late in the season.  I think the bigger issue is that ATL is just not as good as you started to think they were.

I guess it could be possible that trae young is a net negative because of his defense and poor shot selection, but even if he is very overrated, there is still quite a bit of talent there. Capela and bogs are very serviceable vets. Murray seems to clearly have some two talent. It’s hard to believe Hunter is absolutely awful. They should be at least 5 games over .500 at the end of a season with that roster right? It also doesn’t help McMillans cause that huerter seems to have he a really positive Impact on winning in Sacramento.

Clearly the ownership or management believe they should be better.  Maybe it is the Larry Bird theory that any coach has a shelf life and that a new voice is needed.

This might be the most absurd reason for rest so far.
