I was looking at the standings in the Eastern Conference and noticed that we are now just a game ahead of Cleveland, 2 games ahead (in the loss column) of Brooklyn and Philly. Milwaukee is now also on top of the standings with 9 losses compared to our 10. We have really gone back to earth since losing to the Warriors. I really hope we can go back to our winning ways asap. The return of RW was supposed to propel us to greater heights. Instead we see ourselves caught up in a really major slump. Minnesota is up next. Hopefully it’s the start of a new win streak.

While Mazzulla’s been credited for helping the Celtics stay on the right track following the Ime Udoka scandal, Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens didn’t have an update on the status of Mazzulla’s interim tag.

“We haven’t really even talked about it recently,” Stevens told reporters on Friday. “Our focus has been on how to make this team and staff and give everything we have to make sure we’re as good as we need to be.”

Stevens said that Mazzulla’s done a good job and has been “running the show.”

“He’s been great and his staff’s been great,” Stevens said. “That’s something that probably doesn’t get talked about enough. I think that was a unique thing for everybody and the staff just came in and did their job to adding to winning. That’s what we have to do. Everybody in this building has a role, we all have to play it as well as we can to give ourselves a chance to win.”

Stevens also credited Mazzulla for incorporating his vision on the team while also integrating the opinions of other coaches. The Celtics held the best offensive rating in NBA history before their recent six-game road trip to begin December. The team has dipped a bit, but still hold the league’s second-best offensive rating.

Stevens seemed encouraged about the potential growth shown by Mazzulla and his staff through the early stages of the season.

“Every 20 games that you coach in the NBA, you’re just getting better and better and better,” Stevens said. “Just even like looking at where we started from the start of training camp, the leadership, the organization, the way that everybody embraced him, he embraced everyone else. He’s very open to people, to the different ideas that they have.”

One big question around the NBA will be centered around what teams will do ahead of February’s trade deadline. The Celtics will almost certainly be in buyers mode if they chose to make a move considering their contender status. Stevens said Friday that the team will “let the game tell us what to do over the next couple of months.”

“We want to win, there’s no question about it,” Stevens said. “We have a really good team and hopefully we are playing great over the next couple of months. But we’ll evaluate that and we’ll make the decisions that — right or wrong — we think may give us the best chance of winning.”

But Stevens also doesn’t want to potentially mess up a good thing that team’s good going for them right now, either.

“This [group] has as much camaraderie and togetherness as any I’ve been around, certainly at the professional level,” Stevens said. “I think they really like each other, I think it’s a really good character group. I see a lot of when guys have a tough game, guys have a tough day, there’s just a lot of support within this building for them, and I like that.”- Boston.com

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I wouldn’t take off the interim tag just yet.

Tatum's 41 points represented the highest-scoring total through four games of the NBA's five-tilt Christmas Day slate. And it was tied for the most by an NBA player on the holiday over the past 10 seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Info data. James Harden landed on 41 in 2018.

It also was the second-most points scored in a Christmas game in Celtics history. Tom Heinsohn scored 45 in 1961.

"It's definitely an honor. I've said many times how much I love being here and what it means to play on Christmas -- sixth year in a row and something I never want to take for granted," Tatum said after the game. "As a kid, that was part of the tradition: Eat, be with family, watch all the games and try to envision myself playing out there one day. Now I get to do that."

Robert Williams said his knee feels “good” now. Said he felt like he needed some rest. Though the team said it was just maintenance, he said it came as a surprise to him. Said he had been “sore the game before.”

Cs need to trade for a big man ASAP. They cannot rely on Williams.

I like him a lot, and even if he misses 20+ games per season, he's still on a team-friendly deal.

But, our overall big man depth is fairly poor.

Not too shabby.  :D

I’m glad he’s back in the starting lineup. Good to have that sort of paint protection right out the gate.

RWIII makes a difference, that is for sure.  But his back up is Luke Kornet (essentially).  For example, when Smart is out, we get more of White and Pritchard.  More equivalent to fill in.  When RWII is out, we get more Kornet and Griffin.

I don't point that out to diminish the impact that RWII has.  It is real.  He adds important ingredients to the team that no one else can.    His defense is elite.  High end rebounding and passing/court movement.  But it is both, what he does and what his back ups can't do.

What are people's thoughts about trading for Naz Reid? Expiring deal, depth big, not owed much the rest of this season, and pretty young (just 23 y/o)

I'm a big fan of his and think that he has a bright future in the NBA. He may be a late bloomer that becomes a Christian Wood-type player, but with a little more discipline.

If the Wolves would trade him, I 100% would try to get him, and I think the Wolves need a guy like Pritchard too.

I would hate to give up Pritchard. Maybe Davison + pick(s)

I'm also pretty high on Davison.

Pritchard is the one thing on this team we have a lot of. The offense mostly runs through Tatum and Brown, and we have three other point guards.

Pritchard is helpful, but he is buried on the bench.
