This just in: Bradberry, the Philly player who committed the penalty, said it was a hold and he was hoping the refs didn’t see it. Interestingly, he got away with an obvious hold earlier in the game.
because he pulled the jersey and that is called almost every time. You can't pull the jersey

Pretty decent of Bradberry to make that statement.  He did pull the jersey, and then kind of wrapped his arms after too.  It was not egregious, but also hard to say it is not an infraction.  It is too bad that it had to have such an impact on the game in any case.

(meant to say NOT egregious)

Exactly.

And it's funny that most media outlets keep showing the video where you can't see the hold, just the defender's left hand resting on the receiver's back, which isn't a penalty. But if you look at the reverse-angle video, you can clearly see the defender getting a fiEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.l of jersey with his right hand. I feel like a lot of people aren't realizing this, and it's partly because various media aren't reporting it well.

As for the field, one thing mentioned during the game was that it was new type of grass—not sure what they meant, as they didn't specify or elaborate, but the Super Bowl isn't the time to be trying a new type of anything.

Edit: LOL, my post was dinged because I used the word (which here I'll split in two, to avoid getting dinged again) "fist ful," because it contains "st fu."

Very decent of him, and I respect that. In a way, the call is indeed unfortunate, but if all the players were to know that certain types of penalties absolutely won't be called in the last two minutes, they would commit a lot more of those penalties, and I think that would be bad for the game.

In my view, a penalty is a penalty, whether in the first minute of the first game of the season or the last minute of the Super Bowl. If officiating is inconsistent, which it is, that's on the league and the officials. But if I'm on offense and I get my jersey grabbed, I want to see the flag thrown, because that's a penalty, period.

Inexcusable, but that 10 out 10 don't normally get called late in the game. Regardless, the defense fell asleep in the 2nd half and that was their shortcoming.

Agree on both points. Refs could call that on every play but they usually pick their spots and don't call it late unless it's flagrant,  especially in a playoff game.

And the Eagles certainly did choke as well. It was the the Pats in 2017 against the Eagles. Their defense came unglued. And the Hurts fumble really was enormous too.

Tough result for an excellent Eagles team.

The more times I watch the full play, the more convinced I am that was a clear penalty and not controversial at all.  Here is a nice shot of the penalty

https://twitter.com/AryePulliTSP/status/1624968721742630913?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1624968721742630913%7Ctwgr%5Eeac62a8fc62b03824ddbc5ac0668c7873c880523%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.inquirer.com%2Feagles%2Feagles-chiefs-holding-call-refs-james-bradberry-20230213.html

Right when Juju starts to cut, he gets his jersey pulled and it clearly makes him jerk to almost a stop.  Then when Juju starts to accelerate he gets run into and held (slightly).  His momentum was clearly altered in both instances and it is a pretty clear penalty.  Nothing controversial at all about that call.

I agree.  Looking at this closely, there is a clear jersey grab with his right hand that clearly impedes Juju's momentum.  Then he kind of wraps him up and it appears that he grabs his arm with one hand and then makes contact with the left hand.  As they come out of that, you can see Juju pushing the right arm away with his left hand.

It is unfortunate, but hard to say this was a bad or unnecessary call.  Without the hold, they may have gotten the touchdown right there.

There's an even better angle on this, one they showed during the game, but most media outlets aren't using it, and I'm not sure why. But you can see it CLEARLY at 1:59 of this First Take video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFnq_8RbJWA

JuJu makes his cut, and Bradberry knows his goose is cooked, so he gets a big ol' handful of jersey—in the video above, you can see the jersey being pulled out. A blatant hold. Correct call. Don't care that it was near the end of a close Super Bowl.

And as further evidence that it was a hold, look how far the ball lands past JuJu. Does anyone think Mahomes was that far off on his throw? Right when it happened, before I even knew the flag had been thrown, my first thought was, "Something had to have happened; there's no way Mahomes overthrows it that badly."

I think Eagles fans should be more upset that their defense was a no-show the entire second half, and that their QB straight-up dropped the ball, without even being touched, to give the Chiefs an easy 7 in the first half.

And let's not forget that Butker did Philly a favor by doinking a totally makable 42-yard FG in the first half.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

The player admitted that it was a hold and a correct call.

Nuff said.

It made for an extremely anticlimactic ending to a pretty exciting game, but it was the right call.

Not sure about the replay calls on some of those catches, but easy come easy go.

Yup
