What happened to Damar Hamlin is obviously unfortunate. However, the only thing that was unprecedented was how the rest of the Buffalo team handled the situation, and decided they couldn't continue playing.
The Buffalo Bills should concede the game and take the loss. Do not put the rest of the NFL in the current position of trying to make something up to fix this situation.
I just heard the owners approved the NFLs proposal. Whoever wins the Superbowl will have an asterisk on the championship.
Cincy didn’t want to resume play either, though.
I was under the impression that the Bengals players and coaches were understanding of the situation and didn't want to put the Bills in a tough spot to resume play.
That is an interesting question. Was it the Bills that really dictated that the game wouldn't be played? It would be understandable if that was the case.
I don't think anyone is really being all that disadvantaged here though. KC is probably going to get the bye when if they had played the whole game, there is a good chance the Bills win and then they would be in control of the #1 seed. So KC should have no complaint. There are a lot of scenarios but I don't see how this is all that big a deal for CIN. I guess if they win against BUF, they get home field vs. Baltimore but they have a chance to beat them anyway. If it comes down to a coin flip and they lose, have to play in BAL, and lose, then yeah, they would have a gripe. But they will have had 2 chances to be them head to head to make this all moot.
I suspect that if CIN wanted to, they could have lined up and said they were ready to play and then if BUF decided not to continue, then it is a forfeit and CIN gets the win. But that isn't what happened, or at least that is not how it appears. I see no need for any asterisks. Buffalo and KC are probably going to meeting in the AFC Championship on a neutral field. That seems fair enough to me.
