If Baltimore can find themselves a WR today, I think they move back into the Buffalo/KC tier, as is, I think they are just a hair behind them. I'm still worried about them closing out games, but at 5-3 with a very easy schedule remaining, and being up at least 10 points in those 3 loses (including 20-3 on the Bills), I think they are sitting in a pretty good spot. I'd be outright stunned if the Ravens don't win the north at this point and frankly the 4 division leaders all look like nearly sure things barring major injury. The 5-7 spots in the AFC playoffs definitely have a lot of teams in the mix right now. A lot of season left, but a fair amount of parity in the middle of the AFC (and only 3 teams I'd write off completely at this point Houston, Pittsburgh, and Las Vegas - though they all could ruin someone's season, they aren't going to ruin enough seasons to be in the playoff picture).
Nah- Buff and KC are better. KC has a better offense and Buff has a better offense and defense.
I think Baltimore gets into the playoffs as the AFC north champ. I have little confidence that this team can win in the playoffs. They need a better defense and coaching.
A QB that doesn't choke in playoff games might help as well.
No question it is put up or shut up time for Lamar in the playoffs. He has not been good in his 4 games. The 101 yard INT returned for a TD against Buffalo in their last playoff game was especially egregious. Just a terrible decision and throw. Had they gotten the TD on that drive, they tie that game up instead of immediately falling down by 14 (Lamar was hurt on their next possession). That was just bad and is basically the last time anyone saw him in the playoffs. He needs to play better.
Has there ever been an NFL QB that had such a stark difference in his performances between the regular season and playoffs? 1-3 record. 68 passer rating. 3 TDs to 5 INTs. For a former NFL MVP? That's ridiculously bad.
Peyton Manning's 1st 3 playoff seasons he was 0-3 with 1 TD and 2 INT's. His best game he was 17 of 32 for 194 yards with a TD and a 82 passer rating. In that 3rd playoff appearance (which was his 5th year), he was 14 of 31 for 137 yards and 2 INT's and a passer rating of 31.3.
So yeah, it isn't unprecedented for a guy to struggle in the playoffs to start his career. Lamar's in year 5 this year though and it will be his 4th playoff season, so he has to be better this year.
