So to recap where we stand:
Starters: Smart, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Williams
Back Up: White, Brogdon, ______, Grant, Gallinari
Insurance: Pritchard, _______, Hauser, ______, Kornet
This is lining things up in the very traditional way and having 2 exact back ups for each of the traditional slots (which never happens). First, I don't think Kornet will survive and he will likely be cut and replaced at some point along the way (he has a very small guarantee). He is probably just keeping the spot warm.
The insurance Guard/Wing/SG/2 (Brown/Brodon's insurance, call it what you want) will likely be a prospect as will be the insurance big/PF slot (maybe Kabengele). In my mind, we still have a need at the back up Forward/Wing/SF/3 (again, call it what you want but Tatum's direct back up). We don't absolutely need to fill that. Brogdon could take that and Pritchard could be the back up SG but to me, Brogdon is perfect more as a versatile 2 guard and Hauser is not quite ready for regular minutes if it was needed. I would like to see a vet brought in who is a natural forward/wing and who is better than Hauser.
And I know, Gallinari isn't a natural Center but no roster lines up perfectly. I think the starting and back up bigs are set, what we still have to do is fill the insurance slots. It could end up that Grant becomes the insurance, Gallinari the back up PF, and someone new the Back up C, but I doubt it. If it did end up that way, our insurance 5 would be Pritchard, Thomas (maybe), Hauser, Grant, Kornet. That is really solid depth.
