Caleb Martin has agreed to a three-year deal worth about $20.5 million deal to return to the Heat, per source. Heat using the full $6.5 million taxpayer midlevel exception on Martin.

I think Memphis messed up on this one.  They have about $8.5 million of their TPE left, and the Heat couldn’t have matched an offer for Martin because the most they could go was the taxpayer MLE.  He’d have fit in well on the Grizzlies, but they’re apparently content to roll with last year’s team minus a couple of players.

I don't get it. I thought he was useless for Miami in the playoffs last season. Liability.

Anyone you sign for under about $10 million a year is a regular season guy..  If they can tread water in the playoffs, that's a bonus.  Martin was very good for them in the regular season.

The Portland Trail Blazers plan to waive guard Eric Bledsoe ahead of his guarantee date approaching, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Entering his 13th NBA season, several teams are expected to pursue Bledsoe as a free agent.

This isn’t surprising.  Not a good fit here, but he’ll catch on somewhere.

I'd take Bledsoe as the 13th guy on a vet minimum.

I'd take Bledsoe too. We don't really need him with Pritchard as a 3rd string PG and three combo guards (Smart, D White, Brogdon) already ahead of Pritchard in the rotation.

Still ... Bledsoe is a good defensive guard. He can defend both guard positions so he could work either guard slot in smaller backcourts. Plays with great energy / hustle. Gets a lot of loose balls. Good guy to have on the end of your bench.

Memphis has a pile of players...

That sounds like a minimum contract player to me. Not a $6-7mil per year player.

Yeah, no.  A minimum player is fodder for injuries.  The Heat were about 4 points better with Martin on than off, and he played about half the minutes a game, with a true shooting percentage of .611.  He was very good in the regular season for them, a solid 7-8 in the rotation.  The playoffs were tough for him, as his shooting evaporated, but calling him a minimum player is an absolute joke.

Josh Jackson or bust?

I'm curious regarding the money that Edwards got.  It's a two-year deal with a team option, apparently.

I’ve been touting JJ for several days. He actually could sub either Jaylen or Jayson on a limited scale of course.

Probably similar/identical to the deal Hauser got.

29% career 3P% for a wing.  25% last season.  That is in 291 games over 5 seasons, 6,700 minutes, 900 3 pt attempts.

I am not sure what you do with a guy like that.  He is certainly not going to fill in for Tatum or Brown.

There will be a more reliable vet that will come available at some point.

I like Jackson for his defense.  You're correct, though, he's not much of a shooter.

Per Bobby Marks, Beal's mega-deal includes a full no-trade clause, the only one currently active in the league.
