Bleacher Report proposed Boston trading Rob Williams, Derrick White and Nesmith for Deandre Ayton.

Thoughts?

Two years ago I would have said yes. But if you can get Rob right and healthy he's WAY more valuable to us. Don't the Ayton moves the needle like Rob does. Plus he's a Tatum guy. You don't move those.

Why? He is essentially the same player as Rob that will command 20 mil more/year.

HARD PASS

Do my green colored glasses deceive me, or is Timelord on a different level than Ayton defensively?

On top of that, the Celtics would have to add two additional trade assets and pay Ayton more than Timelord too? The proposed trade makes no sense for the Celtics.

no way I would do that this year, Timelord showed WAY too much game changing ability for us.
That is giving up way too much for Ayton.

I might do that, but mostly because I don't think Rob is ever going to be healthy.  He just seems like a guy that is always going to have something.

I do think Ayton can really grow into an excellent 2-way player.  He would be a pretty solid 3rd option.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I'd do it, as others said TL gets hurt often. Also we get out of White. Makes sense for Suns if they lose Payne.

Still feel Suns will resign Ayton. They can't afford to go backwards.

I think Rob Williams gets over-rated here in many cases.  Ayton was 17 pts / 10 rebs last season, pretty consistent with his career average.  RWill got to 10 pts for the first time last season.  Rob may have better defensive quickness but Ayton is a better player and more durable.

Don't see this trade though.  It would be a S&T which as mentioned would hard cap us and we are already over the cap.  We can't do a sign and trade unless we do a radical salary dump.  Short of a major salary dump, we cannot sign and trade.  It is not allowed if we are over the tax cap.

He is a RFA and his QO is about $16.4M.  That is already a pretty big number.  I would think that PHO will make that qualifying offer.  We'll see what other offers he gets.  There are not a lot of teams that are going to have cap space to make $20M+ offers.

That is a high price. Big salary, less cap flexibility, loss of two important rotation players. Too high a price is my reaction.

I do like Ayton though. Somebody is going to get a good deal with him but whoever it is will give him the straight max without also losing two valuable starting quality players.

I wouldn't be worried about the hard cap if I had faith in my team to start the season. BS shouldn't worry about it. Few teams have must make moves in season.

If I'm the Suns I don't want to play the QO game. Today's NBA could see a player bank on himself and leave and they get maybe a TPE. They should pay him.

Absolutely not. Rob is better , fits with our guys, has a tough-minded mentality, and brings an X factor that powerfully changes the game in our favor in a way nobody else does. If anything I'd focus on expanding Rob's role in our offense going forward.
