I'm not sure if he followed up his comments or if this is just a different translation, but:

Quote
Juan Hernangomez on his Boston stint: “I wasn’t happy there, it was very hard. There was no communication, I didn’t know what was expected of me. There were many super selfish players, no team building. I lost my love for basketball a bit.”

Screw that guy.  So, Ime and the coaching staff picked this stiff as the one dude they didn't communicate with or share expectations with?  Lol.

I can't read the full article, do you have the Spanish text that is being translated?

No, it's on the HoopsHype site, with a link to the Spanish language link.

It's not like this is a guy that has had success on winning teams elsewhere, but couldn't because of our culture.

I was excited about him. He brought something I thought the Cs could use, but he just wasn't very good.

And now he is blaming it on others. We needed him early in the season, and he was bad on both sides of the court.

Meanwhile, Williams, Williams, Pritchard, White, and Smart have all been unlocked in new ways by this coaching staff.

Scrubs who play badly for teams and then get traded don't get to create a narrative about the contender they got traded from.

I really have to believe something here is being lost in translation. Otherwise this guy has to be one of the least self aware players ever. The Celtics are the feel good story of NBA right now with constant coverage of their great chemistry and coachcing. Is a fringe nba player going to really try to crap all over it? That pretty much ends his nba career whenever his contract is up.

He crapped on Minnesota when he was traded in August, and was traded two other times last off-season and this season, so “one of the least self aware players ever” might actually be a possibility.

He could be one of these guys that is just much happier in Europe like mirotic, but yeah given that just seems like an idiot.

Not sure how good his English is, but if he doesn't understand or speak English and being the only guy in the locker room that didn't, he could definitely feel secluded and unliked. Does anyone know if he speaks any English and if he doesn't, did he have a translator?

The Red Sox have a rich Latin culture. They have a Puerto Rican head coach. Assimilating new Spanish only speaking players is very easy and successful for them. Most if no NBA clubs have a Spanish speaking culture in their locker rooms. This could explain Juancho's displeasure and not making friends in multiple cities.

He speaks fluent English.

Yeah, here’s his media day interview.  English isn’t his first language, but communication was not a problem.

Well, appropriateness of the interview aside... is he wrong? We've had multiple reports that that bring support to his take on his time with the Celtics.

Have we heard multiple reports of players not knowing what was expected of them?  I don’t think we’ve heard that.

Of the whole thing, is that really what's bothering you? I wouldn't be the least surprised if that was the case for him in particular. Seems quite a normal occurrence for an NBA team to have certain players that aren't quite clear on what they want from him.

Our team was a mess for the first half of the season, roles were often questioned.

I just think Hernangomez is a mediocre NBA-player and a serial complainer who thinks that the reason for his lack of success is the fault of his teammates and coaches, and not himself, and I view his comments through that lens.
