Disappointed but confident. Don't care if I'm the only optimist left.  ;D

After 4 blowouts I figured the last 3 games of this series would all be competitive, grind it out, hard games to win. I also predicted that even if the C's won Game 5, the series was going 7.

I think the next one is a defining game for the C's and I think they step up. Butler had his great game last night - I'm not expecting another one like that, even though I think he plays well. Not sure Lowery can do it again at this point in his career. Bam is the wild card.  If he shows up it's going to be all the more difficult.

What makes me optimistic is White's last 3 games. He's been excellent and this is a better team with him playing well. I also think Grant Williams steps up after not really being allowed to play last night.  I don't think they'll be getting him for any ticky tack garbage calls early again.

My concern is the Jay's may still be a year away from taking the next step - in Tatum's case great players don't disappear in the 4Q with a trip to the finals within grasp.  But we'll see.  So far these playoffs, when the Celtics have needed a big game out of him, he's delivered. If the Jays play well, they just need 2 of the others to step up and make a few plays which they've been able to do so far spring. Last night the only one who did it was White.

Right there with you. The softies are the loud minority. Most people I know a) wouldn’t want to associate with a bunch of pansies on a blog and b) aren’t worried about Game 7.

Let’s go Celtics!

Feel better knowing they are coming off a loss than if they were going into game 7 after a win.

The reason we consistently suffer these types of losses in the Tatum/Brown era is because Tatum and Brown are not naturally nasty and gritty. This is difficult because they are the two players on our team with the talent to be statement players. Smart, Grant Williams, Horford, Derrick White, Pritchard (Heck, even Nesmith) all have it more natural grit and nastiness than Tatum and Brown. Tatum and Brown are very "nice" guys, truly good kids. Ime has talked to both of them about being less nice when it comes to playing the game of basketball. The problem is that all of these other players on our team with that natural grit don't have the required talent to put the team on their shoulders. On our roster those two guys are Tatum and Brown. So there is a problem. It's not a problem when everyone is on fire - it becomes a problem when things are going sideways, you're getting punched in the head and the game has turned into trench warfare. That's when you need Tatum and Brown to be nastier than the other side, more mentally tough. They struggle in those moments and that's why we consistently lose these types of games.

Brown's a super bright kid who grew up in a very good family situation going to great schools. Tatum is just an emotionally close to the sleeve guy who doesn't have a raging emotional engine in him. Tatum's a beast and Brown is really good but there is another level of mental nastiness and grit that you need to step on people's throats (figuratively) in closing games. This is a basketball quality that applies in a physical pick up game on the playground in 8th grade, a tense state tourney game in high school, etc., it's at any level of the game. It's the KG, Rondo, Perkins nastiness gear.

It's a basketball 101 thing that Tatum and Brown do not have yet when things are going sideways.

It's a KG/Kobe/Bird mental nastiness that says here's the line in the and and I'm willing to get very nasty and I have another whole gear to go to to hold that line.

We can win - but Tatum and brown can't lay down, Smart can't be the guy taking the most shots for us, brown can't score two points in the fourth, etc. Tatum and Brown need to paly with more emotional and physical intensity out of the gate or Jimmy Butler, Bam and Lowry (all of whom have that nastiness and grit in spades over Tatum and Brown) will be more than happy to take our candy, and send Tatum and Brown home where they can basically suck their thumbs all summer. It's a man's game and those two have to "take" victories. They can't take nights off and they can't accept losing when things are going sideways - next gear mentally - and figure it out or go home.

I think we can win, but we certainly are making it as difficult as possible for ourselves, which is just terrible. I would set double screens at the top to of the key for Tatum to get him loose.

Tatum and Brown need to find mental grit and toughness - the kind that comes naturally to Jimmy Butler, KG, Rondo, Wade, etc., or we lose. They cannot accept mediocrity from themselves in game that matter most - it's unacceptable, they are the alphas on this team, they need to act and play like it.

I dont think Butler could even scores 40 next game.  Having said that, heck if they had just limited him to 40 last night then the Cs might have won.

I am just baffled that this team always are waiting to have their backs against the wall before they respond.

I do hope the Cs win G7 but tbh the momentum and HC and the fans backing the cHeat surely doesnt sit well with me in terms of confidence winning G7.

I do like your optimism though.

I don't like the idea of a game 7 on the road for all the obvious reasons.

Nothing is settled but I don't feel great.

Yeah I can't imagine anyone who isn't going to be rooting for the C's anyway. We can save the gnashing of teeth until after the season's over.

Frustrated at the last game, but I expect us to bury them. That was their 'grand final' if you will - I don't see any chance Butler, Lowry and Strus replicate that effort.

I'm feeling an odd confidence. Idk, I mean I am nervous since this is a road Game 7. But it also feels like when the C's have their backs to the wall and no one's really talking about them, that's when they are at their best. And for most of last night and today, the talk has been a lot about Miami and Jimmy Butler (and rightfully so). When it's been about the Celtics, especially after Games 2 and 5, they come out flat and lose the next one.

Team plays better on the road…plus needs some scoring bench vets for next season

Agree the Cs play better on the road for what ever reason.  Next season Grant and Payton will be veteran bench players.  Last night Grant played 17 min, took 2 shots and only scored 2pts. Payton played 3:34 min, took one shot and scored 0.  The only other bench player, D White, scored 22pts in 33min.  Ime did not handle his bench well last night.  Payton should have played more than 3+min and Smart should have played less than 40+.  Win Sunday and this discussion moves to the back seat.

Yeah, it'll back to championship aspirations. You guys know that the Heat are the number one seed for a reason right?

let's stop rationalizing these god awful performances and our suckage at home.  there is no way to spin it anymore.

i hope giannis picks up phone and cusses out whole celtics team. YOU BEAT ME? jrue? lopez? and portis with back to back elimination games? but not these clowns who are a triage unit?

So your alternative is to panic and rant? Well, it's the Celticsblog way but the pressure is still on the Heat.

Panic and rage after a loss is what makes CelticsStrong so entertaining

Because after a win it's replaced by exuberance and jubilation

...at least till the next loss  :police:

Besides, it's pretty tame compared to the folks calling in on Felger and Mazz  :o
