For everyone crapping on Smart for the last play, you need to rewatch the final play. Per Smart, the play from Ime was for Tatum to get the ball, but nobody started moving when the play started. Tatum verified this, as well.

Quote
Marcus Smart on the block by Jrue Holiday: "Nah. I didn't see him. The play was actually that JT was supposed to come up and get it and everybody was standing around and we had no timeouts and the five second count was underway. And Jrue made a great play."

Watch the play again. Al and Tatum don't even start trying to make a move until like three seconds after White is handed the ball. It actually looked like Al spaced out a bit and lost track of time.

Absolutely no idea what they were thinking there, but hard to blame Smart for that when they were delayed in their action. Smart had several questionable plays and decisions, but don't think this one was his fault. Would love to hear an explanation from Al and Tatum what they were doing here.

These kinds of mistakes simply can't happen for championship-level teams. Complete unforced error on our part.

Al saves game 4 and has a mind burp in the clutch in game 5.
I guess it happens.

Going to beat this drum........Ime should've sat tatum down in the 1st half until he promised to play like a pro instead of a 40+ year old dad trying to prove he has range at a Y pick up game. Those possessions hurt. Tatum crying to the refs while MKE has a 5 on 4 hurt.

This team will not take the next step until Tatum grows up.
Bird, Reggie, and Paul would've never been this dumb.

Reggie and Paul? Reggie was the #1 option for two series in his entire career, and Paul had plenty of playoff choke jobs that were much worse than Tatum has been against Milwaukee.

You can keep beating the drum, but at least don't invent things.

I do agree that Tatum was really bad in the first half at the end. Truly think this game ends differently if Tatum doesn't shoot us out of the big lead at the end of the first half. He's got to be better than that.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Smart shouldn't have gone for the quick shot - no reason to do so unless it was an absolute guaranteed dunk. Even if he did score, there was way too much time on the clock for MIL to get a good shot.

But it should also be noted that Smart was also not at fault on the Portis rebound either. If you watch it in slow motion from the front, Smart was clearly going to get the rebound until Brown totally 'fouled' Smart on the loose ball. I know many people do know this, but it wasn't completely clear in real time.

But, whatever, who cares? The team sucked all year in the clutch, so I don't know why we thought they wouldn't continue to do so.

Look man, maybe it's a generational thing, but up until the last 10 years, players usually didn't play as reckless like this. Tatum kept mke in the game with that nonsense. He had no reason to force those shots other than to pad the stats. His team did nothing to make him believe he had ton force those shots. It's a freaking joke that a dude in his 5th year can't understand how detrimental that is to his team.

I fear the game overall is going to get worse because kids growing up today prioritize jacking 3's over fundamentals. I struggle with this with mynown kid. He's out on the court laughing bombs rather than working on his dribbling and midrange shot.

Seems like a lot.of young kids thing waht curry does is easy and don't need anything more. Now excuse me, I have to go yell at a cloud.

Ya Smart didn't really mess up, he just never should have been in that situation. It was a team failure.

Al didn't have the same level of concentration today as he did the other night, I guess it took a lot out of him. Not sure what Tatum's reason is. Pressure probably has a lot to do with it.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

I'm guessing Horford needs to start the action by moving toward Tatum.  The way Tatum chose not to get into it at the presser gave me the impression that he didn't want to throw Al under the bus.  For obvious reasons.

That was also my thought, on both counts. I think Al just spaced out for a second.

Sucks. Because now Marcus has another mark on his resume with all casual fans
