So apparently Kyrie went into the Locker room in the 2nd quarter to eat/drink, since he’d been fasting until sundown. I don’t know how you can play in an NBA game without having any liquids for nearly 24hrs. C’s better be ready on Saturday, Nets backs are against the wall.
Pretty sure Jaylen has also been fasting (or was).
It's definitely not easy. I don't celebrate Ramadan, but I have fasted before for Hindu religion (just by choice with family) and especially not being able to drink anything for a long period of time starts to get to you after even just 12 hours (and especially if the weather is hot; if the weather is cold it's not as bad)
I've done fasting when I was younger as part of a Christian upbringing, and I intermittently fast every day now as part of my weight management program. My understanding with religious fasting with how we did it was that it was food only, not necessarily liquid/water.
Is it different in Hinduism and for Ramadan? Granted, our fasts were for full days at a time, not just during the day. So maybe that was the difference, as you obviously can't go days at a time without liquids.
That's cool!
So I can't say I'm an expert on all the different types of fasting and for which religions/cultures, but for Hinduism it's typically you can eat/drink a ton before sunrise which is what people tend to do (wake up early to do this), then fast during the day (no liquid/food) and then you break your fast either at sunset OR midnight depending on the occasion.
My mom and other relatives of mine in India (typically females) partake in fasts for religious occasions and festivals and do this. Males typically don't but they can, though there is one occasion where the husband and wife both have to fast but that can be optional too (again, it's kinda complex since in India there's like TONS of dialects, gods/goddesses people follow, etc.)
There are people who do this regularly though so they are used to it. Some people also "cheat" in secret but I mean, whatever, their choice and no one's watching I guess.
I've fasted 3 times in my life as I just wanted to try it. I didn't have to do it but was just curious. I did it once while in India and that was the one that I felt was difficult. But also, it was like 101 degrees that day lol. I also chose to sleep in so I woke up feeling hungry too. I broke the fast at sunset and just chugged a soda lol. The other times I've done it here, it was fine for me.
But also look at it this way, Jaylen and Kyrie are doing this while ALSO playing 40+ minutes in playoff games, which is insane to me.
