When all is said and done with WR signings this offseason, Nelson Agholor's contract will look like a bargain...

Not if he gives the Pats another sub 500 yard receiving season with only 3TD’s. Guess the good news is he can’t be any worse than he was last year. Hopefully...

I wonder if there's any interest on our behalf in picking up Jarvis Landry on the cheap (assuming he doesn't just go to Tampa). It's hard to judge receivers of Baker Mayfield...
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I don’t think the Pats have much cap space, but if they were able to sign Landry, he’d immediately be the most talented WR on the team. He did have two 1000+ receiving heard seasons in Miami and one in Cle. Played 12 games last year and had 570 yards receiving, with 2TD’s. Pats haven’t done much of anything thus far...

J.C. Jackson signing with LA Chargers. Glad he's getting his money
Shame we're losing Mr Int.

That LAC defence now has Bosa, Mack, JC and Derwin James. Good players all over

Nice looking defense.
I read JC is getting $80+M over 5 years. First two years $40M guaranteed, I think 20M in each year, so that's Jalen Ramsey money.

I think they wait for draft for WR.

I'm so conditioned to these numbers that I hardly blink an eye when a football payer signs for 40M over the next 2 years (80M if he gets through the contract).   How absurd is it that JC Jackson (or any football player) will make $40M over 2 years?  Of course it's all relative to what other players earn and what owners make and how crazy the entertainment field is in terms of pay to high profile performers.  Crazy marketplace.

But I'm not particularly glad for him that he got paid.  I'd be glad if he took 20M (which might actually set him up well enough for the next 50 years) and stayed in NE.   But realistically who'd work for that pittance?

The draft is probably the way to go. I would happily spend a first rounder on Chris Olave as our future WR1. Roger McCreary or Marcus Jones as a CB drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round would be solid too.

I know, its monopoly money. Its hard to fathom how much these guys make (same for NBA, MLB, etc). And then I think of the fact that many of these owners bring in much, much more than that.

Beware of top heavy defenses.  The salary cap forces rosters to be a zero sum game.  So by spending this much on Jackson, they have that much less to spend on the other 3-4 secondary players.  Same applies to linebackers and defensive line.

Now if they can fill in around with decent players on rookie deals or whatever, maybe this works out fine.  But the game is so sophisticated these days that teams can negate the strengths and exploit the weaknesses.

Remember the Miami Dolphins winning championships with the "No Name Defense"?  That is the Belichick approach also.  There are exceptions but in general for a defense, your weakest link hurts you more than your strongest helps.  The same applies to offensive line for example.

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Tom Brady has got to be getting a pay raise, right?  I wonder how close to $50 million it will be.

That's definitely true, but with Herbert still on his rookie contract they have a lot of room to work with

The JC Jackson contract also looks like just an $8 million hit in year one ($25 million signing bonus has a cap hit spread over 5 years, and salary is just $3 million this season). Looks like they're going all in in the next few seasons, but down the line when Herbert signs his second contract there'll be a real roster crunch. I like their moves so far, though.
I'm bitter.
