When you lose your two best defensive players, who play hard every minute that they are in the game. This team loses its identity without Smart and Timelord. Giving up 112 points to the Pistons is just unacceptable.

Smart is the leader and heart of this team. He’s invaluable.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

He is absolutely not invaluable. If we were down Tatum/Brown/White instead of Smart the outcome would have been much the same - we were too depleted on a back-to-back to win, regardless.

Both of those guys were directly missed, for sure.

I thought we missed Timelord more tonight.  We had no interior presence, and nobody even attempted to rebound.

He sets the tone defensively and holds his teammates accountable. No one else does that for this team. If he plays instead of White, the C’s win this game.

Maybe. Or maybe he shoots 1-13 like our loss against Phoenix, or one of his many other terrible games this season.

There is no reason why you or anyone should have any faith in Marcus to be consistent in what he brings to an individual game.

Considering Jaylen can pick up for Jayson if / when out, and vice versa.... is RWIII our most valuable player? Most essential?

Well, White didn’t exactly show that he can pick up when Smart is out. Both guys are essential. Defense goes to hell without them.

I appreciate Smart (not really White), but I think Williams is far more essential. I tend to think Marcus' defense is a little overrated by fans, where I think Rob's is underrated.

I bet if you anonymously polled the Top 100 players in the NBA, asking them which individual player they'd like to face least in the offensive half court -- Timelord would get a lot of votes.

We still should have won easily. The team just came in with the wrong attitude after a blowout win against a very good Sixers team. They overlooked the Pistons and just never bought the defensive effort and focus needed tonight.
