Anyone changed their minds on who won this trade?

Will have to wait and see how the pick, plus swap turn out first.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I don't understand why there is a need to interject Smart into the discussion about whether the White trade was a good trade or not.  We didn't trade Smart for White, we  traded Richardson, Langford, a pick, and a pick swap.  I will admit, at the time, my opinion was that it felt like an overpay but that I didn't hate the trade.  White couldn't shoot to start but was somehow helping the team win anyway.  Now he is comfortable and is even better.  An important part of the team.  I expected he would be more comfortable and better this season but I never expected him to be this good.

But Smart and White are not some net-zero equation.  Smart actually had a really good game last night too.  Made some quintessential Marcus Smart plays.  He was +10 and White was +2.  People were quick to give up on White last season, basing too much on the shooting and not looking at the full picture.  I feel people are doing that with Smart now (still?).  It is more understandable with White last season.  It was all we had seen of White.  But we have 9 seasons to know the good, the bad, and the ugly of Marcus Smart.

I believe that Marcus Smart is as important to the team as White, maybe a little more so.  White can do some things better than Marcus.  But there are elements that Marcus Smart brings that no other player in the league can bring.  And I like both Smart and White better than Brogdon, but Brogdon is right there too.  Coming off the bench is the perfect role for Brogdon on this team.

Time to re-up this gem. https://www.celticsblog.com/2022/2/11/22929311/sorry-folks-derrick-white-trade-disaster-josh-richardson-jayson-tatum-jaylen-brown-romeo-langford

In fairness, he was doing his best Shaughnessy impression, haha.
Who knows what might have happened last year.  Maybe we win the title with Richardson instead of White.  Maybe we package that 1st round pick for Brogdon and still have our 23 pick, or maybe we used that 1st and the TPE for someone like Wood and then still acquired Brogdon, while keeping Richardson.  And no one will know what will happen with that future swap for years.

It absolutely looks like a good trade now though, given Boston went to the Finals last year and just how well White has played and meshed on the team.  At the time though, I get the concern.  I had reservations about the future pick swap, but was fine with the other components of the trade, but there were plenty on here who didn't really like the trade at the time, especially with the 22 1st involved.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

this pretty much sums up my issues with the deal last year --> an overpay but acknowledging White was a decent player.  Really didn't want to give up that pick swap nor the other pick to be honest because I was hoping we'd be able to use those assets in another deal to improve the roster.  White's shooting last year reinforced that opinion

with the way White has played this year, I have no qualms with the deal but will say that if we had gotten this version of White last year, we'd have banner 18 already.

The column was worth re-upping, first, because it was way too early for such a strong take. Second, even allowing for the exaggeration in a lot of us thought it was directionally wrong.

I don’t have much respect for his weasel words, either. He’s saying: here’s my hot take - if I’m right I’m claim credit and if I’m wrong I’ll say it was just a joke. I guess I could follow his approach and say “this guy is the dumbest sports analyst in history!” and then add that I’m exaggerating. But that’s annoying. Just say what you mean and stand by it and eat crow if you’re wrong.

Some of these deals by Brad are truly Auerbachian.
