Dwhite >Smart
I don't understand why there is a need to interject Smart into the discussion about whether the White trade was a good trade or not. We didn't trade Smart for White, we traded Richardson, Langford, a pick, and a pick swap. I will admit, at the time, my opinion was that it felt like an overpay but that I didn't hate the trade. White couldn't shoot to start but was somehow helping the team win anyway. Now he is comfortable and is even better. An important part of the team. I expected he would be more comfortable and better this season but I never expected him to be this good.
But Smart and White are not some net-zero equation. Smart actually had a really good game last night too. Made some quintessential Marcus Smart plays. He was +10 and White was +2. People were quick to give up on White last season, basing too much on the shooting and not looking at the full picture. I feel people are doing that with Smart now (still?). It is more understandable with White last season. It was all we had seen of White. But we have 9 seasons to know the good, the bad, and the ugly of Marcus Smart.
I believe that Marcus Smart is as important to the team as White, maybe a little more so. White can do some things better than Marcus. But there are elements that Marcus Smart brings that no other player in the league can bring. And I like both Smart and White better than Brogdon, but Brogdon is right there too. Coming off the bench is the perfect role for Brogdon on this team.
