OK so were buyers now?  If the tax doesn't matter who do we get.  I believe the below are the TPE's we have.  Assuming only Schroder and Richardson are dealt what can the C's do?

The Celtics have reportedly gone from seller mode to buyer mode thanks to their recent hot streak. https://t.co/BMpTJMYa5C

Hernon - 6.9m TPE
Fournier - 17.1m TPE
Thompson - 9.7m

Not sure how the salaries would work but why not bring back Theis?

Would be a huge help defensively off the bench.

Hernon - 6.9m TPE
Fournier - 17.1m TPE
Thompson - 9.7m
Kemba - 5m left

Two things:

Firstly, whatever you're reading on the Kemba TPE is incorrect.  There is still a little bit left, but far less than $5 million, because we used the TPE to take in Bol and Dozier, creating the Hernangomez exception.

Secondly, just for amusement sake I want to use the Fournier exception to take back Fournier and get a 1st with him for his bloated contract.  I don't think this would be a particularly good roster building move, but it would be funny.

I think this may be true. I think they could go either way, but it's a pretty tough message to send to the Js to trade a significant rotation player to duck the tax when the Cs have played the best basketball of the last few years over the past month or so.

This team understands, maybe better than most teams, how difficult it is to win in the NBA and how fragile momentum and good vibes are.

Not sure who is and is not available. Also, I'm not sure how much Brad can spend over the tax. I also am not sure Brad would love Dougie McBuckets contract or the fact Brunson could walk right after the season, but these are guys that I think could help this year a whole lot.

I don't believe the owners would be willing to use the TPE to bring in someone significant.  I still think they will try to bring in a player with a trade that doesn't increase the salary or even decreases it.

What am I saying?  The owners may be willing to be above the tax some if it improves the roster.  But I don't think they'll take back 10-15 million.

Brunson & Wood are the big ones, but I love Timelord, I’m hesitant to deal Smart right now, and I know neither team wants Josh.

I don’t want to waste our picks in case a third star becomes available this summer, but still, I’d think long and hard about a package for either Wood or Brunson centered around a pick or two.

I read some comments over at celticsblog that Eric Gordon is a possible target. He’s having a pretty steady season for the Rockets this year.

Quick question. How much better is Jerami Grant than Josh Richardson? Is he a legit upgrade?

I don't believe we're actually willing to pay the tax right now. But, if we were, our interest in Malik Beasley could make more sense. He's not worth Richardson and certainly not Smart. But, if he only cost one of Nesmith/Langford, and we absorbed him into the Fournier TPE, that would be similar to the JRich deal where we got a mid-range salary rotation player for essentially nothing of value. He would basically bump us from an 8-man rotation to a more sustainable 9-man rotation while adding needed shooting.

I don't believe this report.

I don't think we'll be "selling", but I also don't think we'll be "buying", either, at least to the extent that it puts us above the tax.

They play completely different positions, so it's not like you would be upgrading Richardson's position. It's more like you would be upgrading the starting PF position.

But, I see where you are coming from in that you think Richardson would need to go to match salaries. But, maybe you send out Horford instead. Horford, Freedom and the C's 2022 1st rounder for Grant and Olynyk. Might need more picks.

Smart/Schröder
Brown/Richardson
Tatum
Grant/G Williams
Timelord/Olynyk

That's now your much better and slightly deeper 9 man rotation.

Yeah, I proposed something similar awhile back.  It hurts our rebounding, but keeps the defense at the same level while adding offense.

I would like to take a crack at Christian Wood. For whatever reason, Houston seems to be moving on from him.

Unless I am missing something, it looks like he could fit in the Fournier TPE. 26 year old 6'10 C/Pf with a 7'3 wingspan. Excels at shooting, and stretching the rim vertically. Can dribble once or twice on closeouts. 17/10/2 on 48/37/61.

He has played the 5 recently, but he has the tools to theoretically play big ball 4 next to Timelord. He could play the 5 when Rob sits.

Depending on his attitude, I might be okay with giving our first for him. He is under contract for 14 million next year.

The word on Wood is that he plays with no concept of team defense.  He’ll chase some blocks, but is very unreliable defensively.  His attitude is also questionable at best — Houston suspended him for a game in January because of his antics.  The Rockets would love a team to give them a first for him.

He might be interesting as an off-season acquisition, but I think he’s got a few too many bad habits that need ironing out for him to be a viable addition in February.
