The Hawks have zero interest in being a lottery team, especially after making it to the Eastern Conference finals last season, so they’re going to continue to be aggressive on the trade market. That’s why they’re one of the consistent teams that come up in trade conversations. They’re heavily linked to Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, have been linked to Detroit’s Jerami Grant and have interest in Boston’s Marcus Smart and Portland’s CJ McCollum, sources say. – via Chris Kirschner @ The Athletic

I’ve actually heard some chatter on a Smart-Bogdanović trade framework in the past few days. Whether or not it actually materializes is a different thing. – via Chris Kirschner @ The Athletic

Bogs + Collins for Horford + Smart + #1

Get it done, lol.

Timelord / Kanter
Collins / Williams
Tatum / Richardson
Brown / Bogdanovic
Schroeder / Pritchard

That's a fun team.  Too bad it's wildly unrealistic, haha.

I've seen more unrealistic trades actually happen so fingers crossed.

I don't think this is entirely unrealistic pending on how much they value smart but there are rumors of Ben Simmons for Collins and Bogdan being discussed and you do that deal all day long.  No way in hell a Bogdan for Smart deal would be done.  It doesn't make the C's better.

I have zero interest in a Bogdanovich for Smart trade, so yeah, the only way I could get at all excited is if we expanded it to add Collins. While we're at it, let's expand it even further to include Jaylen and Trae.

I think the Cs need to add one more asset... and then you're talking about a legitimate trade proposal here.

By the way, I can't follow the Simmons <> Hawks talk. Am I the only one who thinks Simmons is a dreadful fit with Young, considering the financial commitment to Simmons? Yes his defense would be very helpful, but he'd be a major liability on O.

Smart, on the other hand, makes tons of sense for them.

I don’t know how unrealistic that is. When I look at who the Hawks are targeting, Smart seems to be the most realistic target and I think makes the most sense for the team. I’m sure they would love to have Horford back, too, as he’s probably the franchises most beloved player over the past couple of decades, and is still serviceable.

Factor in the fact that Collins isn’t happy with his role, and this kinda starts to make sense…however, I do agree we’d have to throw at least one more asset in that deal.

if he's not happy in Atlanta where he's pretty much the #2 guy behind Trae, why would he be happier here as no better than #3?

The unhappiness isn't because he's a #2 option.  It's because he's not allowed to do anything with the ball.

On average, when Trey Young touches the ball, he has it for 6.19 seconds.

Ranking way down in 19th on the Hawks -- behind two-way players and Covid fill ins -- is John Collins, at 1.58 seconds per touch.  Collins averages 0.47 dribbles per touch.  Collins is actually second on the Hawks in touches, but his role is to immediately shoot or pass.

Past complaints have allegedly been about the nature of the Trae Young centered offense, rather than shot attempts.

In Boston, I think there's more opportunity to distribute the ball more evenly.  All of Tatum, Brown and Smart touch the ball less than 4.0 seconds per touch, and even Grant Williams is allowed more dribbles than Collins is in Atlanta.

I go back and forth on Trae.  You basically have to give him the keys to the entire offense.  I would rather have JB.

Because Trae Young completely dominates the ball in ways that Tatum and Brown don't (when they're playing as they should).  Young has the ball in has hand 10% more per game than Tatum and Brown combined.  Collins could be more involved as a #3 option in Boston than he would be as a #2 in Atlanta.  I'd keep Smart myself, but I think Collins' objection is with how Trae operates as the #1, and not that he has to be the #1 himself.

if the Celts trade Marcus Smart, I will be very disappointed if they aren't sending him to a team with a shot at making a title run.

Marcus was made to have some big historic moments in a Finals series and I suspect the Celts aren't going to be in position to allow him to do that while Marcus is still in his prime.
