I don't see the need for Boston in that trade
It'll come down to whether Portland wants Ben Simmons or not. Simmons is a polarizing player. Some folks would love to have him on their team and some folks do not rate him at all because of his high paycheck and inability to make a jump-shot.
If they want Ben Simmons, there is no need for Boston.
If they do not want Ben Simmons, then a package of multiple picks is an attractive alternative.
My thinking here is Portland is 13-22 now. If Lillard decides he wants out, they might decide to simply rebuild and look for assets for the future. If that were the case, I don't think they'd be interested in Simmons.
And I actually think he fits perfectly with the J's. A big, versatile defender who can take the playmaking burden off Jaylen (who hasn't shown much of an aptitude for it yet) but who wants to pass the ball and get them both points.
