I'd like to keep two of four players on the court at all times. Those 4 players are the two Jays, Schroder and Horford. They are our best offensive players. Horford stabilizes and facilitates the offense which takes pressure off less talented players. Schroder and the Jays our best creators. Plug the other guys around them.
It really shouldn't be that hard, right?
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Play the Jay's together more and play them in the pnr together. If either gets blitzed as the ball handler on the pnr, the first wide open outlet will be the other Jay, a top notch shooter/scorer. When you are running Tatum on pnr  with Smart or Richardson, you don't want Tatum's first outlet to be Smart or Richardson or anyone else running the pnr with him while the other Jay sits in the opposite corner as a decoy. A decoy, I must admit, that no longer draws any gravity after seeing for years in Steven's system that that decoy never gets the ball. So that defender cheats in and mucks things up on the Celtics

I think it's easy to see the CS are at their best when both Jay's are on the floor. And the Jay's don't even play in unison or in any pnr  plays together. Draw up plays for the Jay's in a pnr or in a three man weave with Horford and I think the results could be amazing. But we just aren't seeing that.

I think the team could survive both Jay's being off the floor together for a minute or 2 each half if it meant them playing together 2-4 minutes more per game and playing in unison to a devastating effect.

But hey, what do I know. I'm just an internet moron.

this is what I've been saying since the end of last season - the J's should be playing a 2-man game as the best offense we have.  both defenders cannot cheat off one to double the other.  similar to when Bird and Mchale played a 2-man game on offense in the 80's.  nothing the other team could really do about it.

Smart needs to come off the bench.  never considered him starter material and he hasn't proven me wrong this season.  start Schroder with Brown, Tatum and Horford.  5th starter will either be dependent on the matchup with the opposing team or someone will separate themselves from the pack during the season.  just not Smart.

The Celtics are 20 points per 100 possessions better when Smart is on the court compared to off it.
https://www.nba.com/stats/vs/advanced/#!?TeamID=1610612738&VsPlayerID=203935

The Celtics are 9 points better when Tatum is on the court than off (and are a net negative in either case).
https://www.nba.com/stats/vs/advanced/#!?TeamID=1610612738&VsPlayerID=1628369

The Celtics are 6 points better with Schroder on the court (but again, are a net negative).
https://www.nba.com/stats/vs/advanced/#!?TeamID=1610612738&VsPlayerID=203471

Smart isn't the problem.  He does make winning plays.  He doesn't make many winning shots.  I'd argue Tatum's play has been more of the problem, and I don't get the Schroder love, but whatever.  But the real problem is this guy:
https://www.nba.com/stats/vs/advanced/#!?TeamID=1610612738&VsPlayerID=1626196

I liked the move over the summer, but it is not working out with him yet.

EDITED due to bad links.

How dare you bring facts into this. Don’t you know Smart shouldn’t call out what everyone knows that Tatum and Brown are ball hogs. Selfish ball hogs. Everyone says it. I am glad Smart finally put these two selfish ball hogs on blast.

Why does no one call out Smart? He's a starting point guard with ZERO assists in 33 minutes.

Yep Smart is a complete bozo. Tatum passed it to him multiple times in the 4th. He clanked his shots per usual.

Two years ago I’d tell you that Smart is an integral piece of this team. Now he’s a detriment, and his attitude makes it so much worse.

Jaylen Brown, one of 2 players along with Al Horford that can be argued has been the Celtics best overall player this year and also is, without a doubt, the team's best offensive player this season, has now been thrown under the bus in public call outs not once, but twice, in less than a week. Once by Udoka and once by Smart. A coach with no head coaching experience and a player who has been beyond awful all this year and most of last year.

What does Jaylen have to do to get a little respect from his coaches and team mates? Career highs in PPG, RPG, DRPG, SPG, FG%, 2PT%, eFG%, FT%, TS%, just isn't enough apparently. He played through hand and wrist pain through most of the end of last season. Played through the after affects of Covid this year. He is completely ignored by his team mates on the court for 10+ minutes per game, late in games seeming all the time the last couple years. But somehow, he is the guy getting called out.

I don't get it.

What don’t you get? you said it yourself, ‘a coach with no head coaching experience’. Nuff said.

He is not a point guard… take it up with the bricklayers he is passing the ball. Put Smart on the bench, trade Smart. It won’t change the fact that Tatum and Brown are selfish ball hogs. Last season you railed and railed about Tatum not passing to PMP.

That problem has been solved by not playing Pritchard. Smart doesn't pass to him either and he's your starting point guard.

I don’t even think he’s a good combo card, his offense is atrocious. He used to bring defense, decent passing, and energy, with the occasional shot which was fine. He’s good when he plays the Beverly role.

It’s rich listening to him call out Tatum/Brown as ball hogs. He’s not wrong, but he’s the last one to call anyone out. He’s singlehandedly shot us out of games, and he bricked everything in the 4th of this game. I’d rather Tatum take 100 contested shots than Smart play hero ball.
