Great question.  I'm going trade Smart...

I'm a huge Smart fan, but he's been a headache at times, coach is a (legitimately) shiny new toy, and keeping Brown + Tatum happy is priority #1.

Smart is a highlight reels seeker that manipulates our brain into thinking that he is a defensive stalwart. He is careless with the ball, making mental errors, and can't shoot despite taking lots of shots.

His teammates are getting tired of passing to him since it is an equivalent of a turnover.

Somebody should yell at him that actually the emperor has no clothes.

Here's a thought - maybe they'd want to pass the ball to him if he wasn't shooting 31% from 2PT rang and 23.5% from 3PT range. Smart might be the single worst high volume shooter the NBA has ever seen.

Having Marcus as your starting point guard was always a fairly obvious bad idea.
Hoped it would somehow work out. But clearly it’s not. Ugh

Isiah and Candice Parker saying his finger pointing comments don’t bode well for the state of the Celtics locker room and maybe instead of complaining about how the Jays didn’t pass the ball to him, rather he should have focused on how the Cs let the Bulls score 39 points when they had a 19 point lead when he’s supposed to be the defensive leader.

Is Smart trying to lead where he sees an absence of leadership?    Udoka really did nothing to stop the bleeding while we were losing that lead....

Lot of people calling out smart for his 25% 3-point shooting. It’s true, that’s been atrocious.

Funny thing is he finally had a good shooting night (3-5 from 3, 16 points on 11 shots overall), which puts him at 28% for the year from 3 - which is still not good, at all, but it is better than Jason Tatum.

Yep. That’s right. Tatum went 1-4 from deep, leaving him at 27% on the season. 27% *on 8.4 attempts per game*. This from the guy some people think should be in the conversation for MVP.

Marcus Smart: “I would just like to play basketball. Every team knows we’re trying to go to Jayson and Jaylen. Every team is programmed and studied to stop Jayson and Jaylen. I think everybody’s scouting report is to make those guys pass the ball. They don’t want to pass the ball. That’s something that they’re going to learn. They’re still learning. We’re proud of the progress they’re making, but they’re going to have to make another step and find ways to not only create for themselves but create for others on this team to open up the court for them “¡later down in the game where they’re always going to have to take those tough shots or take tough matchups when they do get the 1-on-1 or they bring the trap. It’s something we’ve been asking them to do and they’re learning. We just gotta continue to help those guys do that “to help our team.”

Marcus is the last guy who should be calling folks out in the media.  Maybe shoot better than 25% first.

Also:  0 assists for Marcus last night

“ It’s NOT ME ….it’s everybody else”

I was a huge fan for years…but I think he has not grown with the team in past three years . Probably, time to part ways.

Really weird take from Smart! If anything, I thought Tatum looked to pass too much down the stretch. He’s right though: every team has studied and has programmed their defense to stop the Jays. Tatum draws a ton of doubles all game and is able to kick it out. Jaylen is a less advanced playmaker but fortunately, doesn’t get doubled as much

Smart’s a joke. How many times have we lost games over the last two years because he refused to pass and instead took a bunch of hero shots? I’m happy he’s camped out in the corner, if somebody deserves to be iced out of a game it’s him and his hideous shooting and decision making.

Want to make a positive change? Start acting like a real PG instead of complaining to the media.

He was the worst move of the offseason. They should have traded him at the trade deadline last year. He offers nothing complimentary to this team.

I know the focus is on the J's, but Smart seemed to be calling out the coaching far more than either Tatum or Brown when he was talking about all of the isolations and things like that.  Don't get me wrong, he was calling the J's out as well, I just think coaching was the bigger issue for him.

And I do think Tatum, in particular, can go iso heavy at times, including last night and when he doesn't shoot well it is a problem.

The 2 big lineups don't work well.  Boston needs to go with Schroder, Smart, Brown, Tatum, and Horford to start.  I think that would help as the team functions better with an actual PG on the floor.
