lol Isaiah Thomas is so in love with LeBron. Wants him to come back the last couple games to try to get the scoring title to show he's the greatest ever.

What a sniveling sycophant.

I think most would consider it rather embarrassing if you want to be the goat of all time to come out and Chuck up 50 shots to try in win the scoring title on a preseason title favorite losing its 50th game. It would be one thing if he was about to retire and the team was expected to be bad like with Kobe. But seems like more of a rickey Davis or world b free move at this point.

To me, it would only feel really cheap if LeBron and the Lakers pull a David Robinson on the last day of the season, and extra cringey if Denver (their final opponent) is resting their starters and so it's done against something closer to a G-League team.

Feels more like a [dang]ed if you do, [dang]ed if you don't kind of thing.  If LeBron doesn't play, there's people who will complain of stars sitting out and quitting when there's still games to play.    If he's healthy enough to play, do you think he should sit out just because his team has been eliminated?

Personally, I have no problem if LeBron suits up, plays 30-35 minutes, scores 30ish points per game over the last couple of games, and wins the scoring title.  As long as it appears to be done in the normal flow of a game, I have no problem with it.

But ya if he's really pushing hard for it, playing 40+ minutes, getting 30+ shots, playing zero D, the Lakers are just feeding him the ball, don't care about winning, it will be a terrible look, though I'm sure his PR team will be working overtime to try to spin it (LeBron never gave up, LeBron still playing hard even though his team was eliminated, LeBron wanted to make sure the fans got their money's worth, etc.).

Reminds me of when Devin Booker dropped his 70 points on us.

Lake show going out with a whimper. I hope the suns taunt them again after Davis talked trash about them and called them lucky.

Davis promised them they would go 5-0 since Sunday...so far they're 0-2 lol!  ;D

Bill Plaschke has a hilarious take on the Fakers season. Well worth reading. Some snippets:

Quote
It’s literally that terrible

In early January, with role players slowly returning from injuries, the Lakers beat Atlanta to win their fourth consecutive game.

“We’re getting our guys back,” James said. “It’s literally that simple.”

It would be the last time the Lakers would win consecutive games, giving them a streak-less stretch of almost three months that ranks as the NBA’s worst this season.

About ‘getting our guys back’ …

When James and Davis play together, the Lakers are 11-11.

Foreigner in a land of good shots

In a mid-January visit to Sacramento, the operations folks at Golden 1 Center played “Cold As Ice” every time Westbrook missed a shot.

He attempted 14 shots that night. The song was played 12 times.

Losing combinations

The front office built a team so old, so mismatched and so ineffective, the Lakers have used 39 starting lineups this season, or basically a new one every other game.

If the brick fits …

In early March, with his struggles now symbolic of the Lakers’ nightmare, Westbrook lashed out against fans who would chant “Westbrick.”

“Westbrick, to me, is now shaming. It’s like shaming my name. It’s my legacy for my kids,” he said. “I think a lot of times I let it slide, but it’s now time to put a stop to that and put it on notice there is a difference, and we need to make sure it’s understood. And every time I do hear it now, I will make sure that I address it and make sure that I nip that in the bud.”

Four days later against Washington, he addressed it by shooting two for 11.

The day the Lakers are eliminated is always a joyous day.  The years that don’t have one have long, painful springs followed by endless, impatient summers.

Rejoice! It’s Lakers Elimination Day!

Be on the lookout for this Waterboy Chariana Language-Garbler 9000 tweet in about five months:
Quote
After a summer in which Davis’s frustration with James’s roster construction and the franchise cornerstone’s future in Los Angeles took center stage, the results of the investigation conducted by Silver & Tatum into expanding the playoffs to 30 teams were undoubtedly an important data point for Davis and others.

Has to be one of the bigger disasters in NBA history.

A real shame.

Don't worry everyone. We'll spend all playoffs and offseason hearing how apparently all the Lakers coaches, teammates and ownership went against Lebron's wishes to acquire DeRozan instead of Westbrook and that's the only reason they missed the playoffs this year. Poor LBJ  ::)

I have given up on Brooklyn as a title threat this season. Too close to the postseason and too much work left to do to come together.

They still haven't gotten Ben Simmons on the court. I do not like the Drummond pickup and feel they are playing him over a better player in Nic Claxton. And will need to play Aldridge over Drummond if Simmons returns so all their current lineups now are of limited use chemistry / team building wise for the postseason.

Not a fan of Patty Mills and Kyrie starting alongside one another either. The Bruce Brown and Drummond combination stinks offensively. Joe Harris is a big loss in terms of role player offensive contribution something that is even more important now with Ben Simmons' limited shooting and scoring repertoire replacing Harden.

I'm not buying Brooklyn at all. Next season? Yes. I like their talent and believe they'll be in the mix next year but not this season. Too little time and too much work to be done.

I still view BKN as a threat, but also what are we even expecting of Ben Simmons? Even if he comes back, he'll have missed basically a whole season and from what we're hearing, he's barely even practicing too. Is he going to come back and just play lockdown defense on some of the best players immediately? Nash said he's already out for the rest of the season + play-in tournament, but even if he returns after is anyone expecting him to really do anything? I'm not.

Credit to the Pels for sweeping the Lakers this season, too. If that LAL pick had fallen outside of the top 10, then it would have gone to the Grizzlies (Adams/Valenciunas deal); now the Grizzlies are getting two 2nds from NOP instead. On top of totally flaming out, it's pretty awesome that the Lakers aren't even going to get a well earned top ~8 pick in this draft.
