Can't explain what's going on with the Cavs. They have 3 bigs in their starting lineup. I mean, Markkanen is starting at the 3 for crying out loud! They also have a 4th big playing significant minutes off the bench in Kevin Love. How on earth have they won 3 games in a row (against the Hawks, the Nuggets and the Clips)? I'm assuming it's just a fluke, cause otherwise it makes zero sense. Anybody got an explanation?
Teams can't handle their size and they are actually fairly athletic.  Plus, they have two super fast PG's playing next to them.  It is an interesting experiment.  It may be something that once teams have more game film they will be able to figure out, or maybe it just works.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yeah, I got in early with Bane on my two fantasy teams and it is paying dividends already.

I agree that it'd be nice to have Bane on our team, but there were several issues - even outside of the Nesmith pick (which definitely played a part in it). First, we just had too many first and second year players on the roster, as is. Danny traded the pick for two future 2nds (no, not to shed Kanter's contract as is the common misconception) and that apparently was the wrong pick to trade.

And 2nd, and most importantly, there is just no way to know that we would have actually selected Bane. Sure, we selected him, but that was only so we could trade him to MEM. It was like when we selected Lucas Noguiera in 2013 - we didn't draft him to be the next star for the Cs, it was to use in a trade for KO (haha, and not Giannis...whoops).

Also, there is just no way to know whether or not he would be playing if he was on the roster. Forget Nesmith, the guy would have Tatum, Brown, Richardson, Smart, and Langford in front on him. Perhaps he would show enough to play more minutes, but PP isn't exactly getting that love right now. And Nesmith blew it open in SL and part of pre-season and he isn't playing at all. Let's face it, Bane ended up in a perfect situation for his development. Maybe we should just be happy for him, rather than play the what-if game every couple of weeks.
First, the two many young players doesn't hold water.  As Liam said, there was plenty of dead weight to let go.  Second it doesn't matter who Ainge would have drafted if he'd kept the #30 pick.  Liam and I were arguing to draft Bane before draft night.  I wanted him taken with the #24 pick when he was available.  Before the draft in the "who would you draft" thread, I believe said I'd package the #24 and #30 to trade up and get Bane.  Full disclosure, I also said I'd take Poku at #14 which is not looking that good now but he's still very young.

It can work during the regular season.  Teams just don't have much time make adjustments for  other teams playing as frequently as they do.  If the Cavs were to make it to the playoffs, it would be a completely different story.

I'm happy for Bane on that tough Grizzles team. Bane would be starting in place of Marcus not competing with Jaylen and Jason. My starting 5 would be Schroder, Bane, Brown, Tatum, Timelord. We didn't have room for Bane due to Wannamaker, Poirier, Semi, Green, Edwards... 4 nickles for a dollar.

Hey, you don't have to convince me - I am fully invested in Bane stock. Ainge gambled that who he had on guaranteed money was a better bet than the 30th pick in the draft - who again, wasn't guaranteed to be Bane if the Cs kept the pick. While you guys were totally right in your assessment, it's all hindsight now for a lot of folks, including the front office. Like of course if Ainge could go back in time and ship off one of those guys above, he would do it to take Bane. Frankly, it's too bad we didn't trade the 14th pick for a future pick (or picks).

I disagree that he would be starting in place of Smart and think his fight for minutes would with Romeo at the back end of a 10-11 man rotation; but he'd still be a nice cost-controlled player who eventually would prove himself once the injury bug hits. Stinks for us that Bane is in MEM, but it's way better for him.

Should be fun when we play them Monday.

I'm not sold on the Knicks but no one plays harder so far this season.

Yeah, that’s a good matchup. I’ve been flipping back and forth between the football game and that.

I rather have Ball than Smart. He can just do so much more.
