Grant can provide some cover at the 5 as well. Not that I like his game, but he's still under contract.

Grant playing 5 is laughable but it would help us as far as our draft pick would land.   He can't rebound,  can't rim protect and can only guard, Joker ( who is as slow as him) and Bam (who still puts up great stats on him but he was the best we had against him).   He has had a few flashes but we are literally taking a handful of games and not a meaninful ability to play the Five.

The guy is not playing in summer league because he would be completely exposed.  His future lies in China or Europe.   Hopefully, he is dealt and soon but who would want him.  Improving on him is not going to be difficult.   He is a block waiting in the post but of course, has worked and is a decent three point shooter.   Trouble, is he can't guard people except in the most situational circumstances.   Too slow to cover wings, too small to cover bigs.

One theme consistent in Brad's deal is he is getting some size every guy he has traded for has decent size.  Dunn and Richardson are not small guards.   Fernado and Brown were not small bigs.   I hope the days of small guards who are massive defensive liabilities are gone.   Death to small ball!   The rest of the league has moved on.   It is a tactic to use at times but one's team should not be built with that in end.

Also, these guys are have good length and are athletes to some degree.  Dunn has always been hurt.

Fernado is  6'9" Wingspan: 7’4.25″  Bruno Fernando reached at height of 11 feet and 7.5 inches at the Standing Vertical  test at the combine.    Fernando was great in drills among centers, ranking first in the shuttle run (3.05), three quarter spring (3.21) and max bench press (13 reps), while ranking second in lane agility (11.29) and third in standing vertical (29.5) and max vertical (33.5).   Now he has not shown much but he is a big strong guy.  He also averaged 2 APG in college.    Do I think he is a star in the making nope but it very probable that he could be a better option at backup five than Grant who is situational at best and nonconvertible at the worst.

Dunn has excellent size Height: 6’4″, Weight 220 lbs., Vertical Reach: 8’4″, Wingspan: 6’10" at the combine.

Richardson 6'6" with a reported 6'10" wingspan.

I think Stevens did not like a lot of the pieces that Ainge gave him folks.   He is jettisoning them off at a quick rate.

I preferred trading Fernando and/or Edwards, if the Mavericks were agreeable to it. Having Moses, his height, length, and motor as the 3rd string and TL insurance could’ve helped the team and increased his value as an asset.

Stevens’ is filling this roster with young, veteran, plus defenders which means that he’s done with inexperience and subpar defense. Hopefully, TimeLord, Langford, Nesmith, and Pritchard have demonstrated enough to stay on the team, if not, we’ll have the answer.

Bring in Justise Winslow and the bench won’t shoot a lick, but the scrimmages are going to be tougher than the actual games.

Would like to see us nab a veteran 3rd string big man. Alex Len would be ideal for that role

2 years from now,   "we should have kept Moses Brown"  how anyone could write him off as a scrub at 21yrs old is just ridiculous. I see loads of potential in him. Sorry to see him go. To keep G.Will over him, who IMO doesn't even belong in the league, Is crazy.

All indications are that the Celtics tried to get rid of G. Williams but the Mavs wouldn’t accept him/agree to that deal.

Like I suspected all along, brown was nothing more than a throw in.

We need a strong 3rd string center to play behind old man Horford and injury prone Rob Williams. That 3rd stringer is going to be asked to play A LOT more than most 3rd stringers.

He needs to be one of the best 3rd string centers in the league.

From a quick run-through of our moves on the Shamsports Capulator, we literally couldn't make the Richardson deal without sending out 2020-21 guaranteed salary (at least a few hundred thousand, so literally any player). Even though we traded away Thompson, were still limited by the 2020-21 hard cap and these moves have us butting up against it.

I have to wonder if we could have structured everything another way, though (so it happened in the 2021-22 league year instead). We would have needed to use Thompson to match Richardson and then used the Hayward TPE to absorb Dunn instead of the Kanter one, but the only real result would be losing the $9.2 million Thompson TPE. I'd rather have Moses Brown, though.

Of course Free Agency hasn't actually started yet, so maybe we have plans for the TPE, or to bring in a big man that would have made Moses redundant anyway. But it also seems like it could be a case of getting too cute with the TPEs when we would have been better off letting some go unused.
I'm bitter.

Dwight would be awesome but he shouldn't accept being a 3rd string center. He is still a well above average primary backup center coming off back to back strong seasons for Philly and LAL.

Alex Len would be good. Zach Collins was mentioned in another thread as a reclamation project post injury. He'd also be good albeit risky given his injury issues.

I still like Kaminsky and believe he'd be a good fit here. Cauley Stein is interesting. Maybe JaVale McGee is in play although maybe somebody else offers him a bigger role. Maybe Ed Davis since he hasn't played much the last two years so he may be available at a low price. Gorgui Dieng.

I imagine Biyombo would get more but you never know since he is so bad on offense. Might slip through the cracks. Willy Hernangomez. Boban Marjanovic.

Enough candidates out there to get someone interesting. Just got to be opportunistic to get the one that other teams overlook and do not pay enough attention to.

My target would be Khem Birch. I reckon he'd be a perfect fit in our switch-heavy defensive system.

If we opt for a traditional big man, gimme Gorgui Dieng.

Well, we are thin at the center spot again.

If we are counting on Horford and TIMELORD to be healthy all season we might need a little rethink. I guess this will be another wheel-spinning season like last year.

Now I really don’t like the Tristan Thompson trade. So we have Al, The often injured Timelord and.... Grant Williams/Tacko? SMH.better be more moves to come. Poor depth at C and no depth at PF.

Grant is 1000% a small ball five.  Given als age and robs injury history, looks like he’ll get his chance and I think that’s a good thing.
