Also, sounds like he would prefer playing the 4. Smart, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Timelord starting lineup sounds pretty good...
I don't like it. Not enough dribble penetration from the perimeter. Too much playing with the ball in front of a set defense. Not forcing them out of position.
Horford is a far lesser offensive player at PF than C. He is maybe an average offensive player for a forward. He is well above average for a center. Few centers offer his outside shooting & passing ability whereas many forwards offer similar to superior outside shooting, superior scoring variety, superior driving capabilities but not as much passing. The PF position nowadays is fitted with SFs and PF/SFs. Guys like Horford who are C/PF are dinosaurs in these lands.
Horford and Timelord together squeezes the court. Timelord is no scoring threat outside of the paint. Horford is easier defended by quicker mobile forwards than slow footed bigs who want to cheat back into the paint. That puts a lot of pressure on the three perimeter players to create off the dribble.
Too much pressure for a team without a dynamic player whether it is a PG like Trae Young or CP3 or a playmaking wing like LeBron or Doncic.
Smart in particular will be one to suffer in this environment. More forced jump-shots late in shot clock off the dribble with a hand in his face.
We need a better offensive PG to make that lineup work.
