was adding a first really necessary for this?
Who is our starting PG now? PP? Please don't say Smart.
I've been furious with Smart this season, but after this move I actually don't mind Smart at PG *if* we start Horford and can retain Fournier.
With Fournier, Brown, Tatum and Horford on the court you have four capable scorers who can stretch the floor. This means Smart now has ABSOLUTELY NO excuse to be forcing offense or forcing up bad threes - he can focus entirely on defence and playmaking, which IMHO is when he's at his best.
Horford is no longer a guy who will give you 15 a night, but with Fournier, Brown and Tatum out there at their current levels he wouldn't need to. Hell be a playmaker in the paint, will provide quality interior defence, will stretch the floor, and can have the occasional strong offensive game once every 3rd night or so which will help make up for the times when one of the other guys has an off night.
I actually think this is a pretty optimal situation for both Smart and horford to be honest.
With Kemba gone it also means we can completely devote to building the team around Tatum and Brown as the centrepieces of the team, which should help wash away any ambiguity about their roles. This move firmly sets the tone that this is Tatum's and Brown's team now - no more deferring. Time for them to start stepping up and taking a leadership role. Horford can help mentor them in to that role.
I did not like the idea of Brad taking over for Ainge, but I actually like this move...a lot. One of our biggest issues this year was a complete lack of any identity. I think the team's identity after this move it starting to become much clearer.
