Well that is interesting.

I actually like Moses Brown, makes giving up the 1st a little more palatable.

So current roster

PG - Pritchard, Edwards
SG - Smart, Langford
SF - Brown, Nesmith
PF - Tatum, Parker, G. Williams
C - R. Williams, Horford, Thompson, Brown

Unsigned F.A. - Fournier, Ojeleye, Kornet

Way too many centers and gaping hole at PG.

Yeah there's no way TT is going to be back, and I am thinking it's more likely than not that they trade Rob.

stunned.  just absolutely stunned.

have to check into Brown to see what he is as a player but thought we'd do better than shipping out Kemba and a first and a second for another overpaid player that's coming to the end of his career and a prospect.  Really appreciated Al when he was here but he's not what he once was.    agree with many here that another shoe is likely to drop regarding either TT or TL having to be moved.

Kemba was over valued by some

Brad likely couldnt do any better. Unlike Danny not shy about trading picks... thank god

Moses Brown had like 20 rebounds vs Celts last season.
and undervalued by many.

20 rebounds against this team is impressive but not as impressive as it would be against a team that can actually control their defensive boards.

trying to put a positive spin on it.  Kemba for Horford --> one less fully guaranteed year.  Brown for first round pick --> probably better than who we'd draft and he's a big.  2nd for 2nd --> we get the better second rounder

was adding a first really necessary for this?

Who is our starting PG now? PP? Please don't say Smart.

I like Horford. I don't like the trade.

Most deals happen on draft night/at the deadline for a reason. Teams are unwilling to lower their asking price prior to the draft night unless they are desperate to make a trade. It's when they run out of time on draft night that they finally compromise regarding their asking price. To put it another way, trade negotiations are like the game of chicken. Whomever backs down first loses the game. The C's backed down way too early and they got fleeced. Our rookie GM made a rookie mistake. I miss Danny already.

Danny often got nothing done on draft night when he really really needed to. This was a great trade.

Horford instead of Kemba saves $10M.

Moses Brown was undrafted and has a 3 years left on  a contract locked in at under $2M per year. He's a very useful player we can play in rotation. We can now work out shedding TT's contract too, so on net, another $8M saved.

How would you feel about this trade if it was also the difference between keeping Marcus Smart and trading him?  And/or what if we want to make more deals pre-draft? This is a good start

Edwards got to go too
Next priority I'm guessing would be cleaning out all the deadwood Danny brought in.  He's #1 on the list.

Where's the better deal? I don't see it. Al has $27million owed this year, and $26.5 Million which is only 50% guaranteed next season. He's going to contribute.
That does make me feel better. Celtics can get to cap space a year earlier. Flexible enough that you might be able to move Horford again to free up some addition funds by moving a pick or two if a good enough opportunity presented itself in free agency.

That is good. That is progressive.

And we save roughly $10 million next season, and get a prospect who is under team control for the next three seasons. Brown will hopefully contribute more over the next couple seasons than the #16 pick.

But the $10 million savings is huge, since we live in a reality where Wyc values profits more than heavily reinvesting in the team.

This deal felt pretty likely after the Thunder shut Horford down and told him they would work to find him a new team, this trade was probably signed off on months ago.

It's great having Horford back, instantly improves the Embiid matchup, re-opens the floor with his spacing, doesn't get in the way of Brown and Tatum while bringing back true veteran leadership. 2021 revenge tour incoming.

We even get back Al's sister who next gave up on the Celtics.

No, I think the starting lineup will be:

Smart
Langford
Brown
Fournier (if we re-sign him) or Nesmith (if we don't)
Tatum
Horford

PP won't start as PG, IMO.  Of course, that will be decided by our next coach. But if Brad were coaching them, this is what I predict he would do, especially given how well Langford finished the season.
That is 6 players.  And yeah, Smart probably starts at point with a re-signed Fournier, I just don't think Smart should be a starting PG.  It isn't his skill set.  He is fine playing back-up minutes at PG, I just don't want him starting and playing that minutes at PG.  I do also think Horford starts with Williams and Brown backing him up.  That would save the younger guys and the team could use Horford's passing and outside shooting in the starting lineup.  Without any other trades and bringing back Fournier I'd essentially see the rotation as something like this.

PG - Smart 32, Pritchard 16
SG - Fournier 30, Brown 8, Langford 10
SF - Brown 26, Tatum 10, Nesmith 12
PF - Tatum 26, Thompson 15, G. Williams/Ojeleye 7
C - Horford 20, R. Williams/Brown 28

I think the actual starting lineup would be Smart, Brown, Tatum, Thompson, Horford

Team is a bit more cohesive than last year, but isn't any closer to actually contending unless Moses Brown becomes Dwight Howard in his prime.

That said, I can't see that team taking the floor next year.  My guess is Smart and Thompson are going to be moved for a PG.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

In all honesty, I don't mind this move at all. Brown flashed some serious potential and Al, well, he belongs in Boston and seems to fit well with the Jays. If the cost of getting rid of the albatross that was Kemba for a mid first rounder, so be it.

We desperately needed front court help and this is a start.

If the NBA let’s start six players, we should go undefeated. ;)

Ha, I got carried away there in all this excitement!!  Let me revise:

Smart
Fournier (unless he goes) or Langford
Brown
Tatum
R Williams/Al Horford

Adding that first is painful, but Moses Brown PLUS his contract, under the current salary circumstances, is pretty close to equal value.

Plus you get a guy who's going to work his tail off every night vs TT who took large chunks of the season off and was basically around to collect his paycheck.  That has to be an upgrade - at least as far as the regular season is concerned - and gets some work ethic back into the team.
