The Celtics are trading Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Bringing the big guy back home where he belongs

Fantastic trade

WB Al

Moses Brown is also a fantastic grab

I like Horford. I don't like the trade.

Most deals happen on draft night/at the deadline for a reason. Teams are unwilling to lower their asking price prior to the draft night unless they are desperate to make a trade. It's when they run out of time on draft night that they finally compromise regarding their asking price. To put it another way, trade negotiations are like the game of chicken. Whomever backs down first loses the game. The C's backed down first and they got fleeced. Our rookie GM made a rookie mistake. I miss Danny already.

Welcome Al, but I am with you for most... Not sure that a NY, Pels or Mavs wouldn't crack and give something better for Walker. But not agree for the Ainge missing on this. Our 16* pick lost to get rid of Walker is another illustration of his bad choices lately.
Now we have also to find a way to get rid of Thompson (as Horford and Brown are good 2 and 3 options at C) and we are in a need mindset in the market with one of the lowest passing creator team in the League.

Well that is interesting.

I actually like Moses Brown, makes giving up the 1st a little more palatable.

So current roster

PG - Pritchard, Edwards
SG - Smart, Langford
SF - Brown, Nesmith
PF - Tatum, Parker, G. Williams
C - R. Williams, Horford, Thompson, Brown

Unsigned F.A. - Fournier, Ojeleye, Kornet

Way too many centers and gaping hole at PG.

No, I think the starting lineup will be:

Smart
Langford
Brown
Fournier (if we re-sign him) or Nesmith (if we don't)
Tatum
Horford

PP won't start as PG, IMO.  Of course, that will be decided by our next coach. But if Brad were coaching them, this is what I predict he would do, especially given how well Langford finished the season.

stunned.  just absolutely stunned.

have to check into Brown to see what he is as a player but thought we'd do better than shipping out Kemba and a first and a second for another overpaid player that's coming to the end of his career and a prospect.  Really appreciated Al when he was here but he's not what he once was.    agree with many here that another shoe is likely to drop regarding either TT or TL having to be moved.

Kemba was over valued by some

Brad likely couldnt do any better. Unlike Danny not shy about trading picks... thank god

Moses Brown had like 20 rebounds vs Celts last season.

that's what I was thinking was going to happen.  gives us more size in the starting lineup.

would have been better if we could have used the opportunity to ship out Edwards instead of the first rounder (or the second).  that's a wasted roster spot and this would have been a good chance to make it available for someone who can actually play.

Ha -- 10 assists to 43 turnovers for Moses Brown. Nice AST:TO ratio there.

I know nothing of the man but that is a pretty clear indicator he can't do anything other than catch and finish on offense (low skill guy). Also a very bad sign of long term potential. Reliant on becoming a high end defensive player to avoid being a replacement level big man (easy to get / replace) - just an active body.

Darn, I was about to post who we should grab with the 16th pick (Roko).  Oh well.

I think this trade makes great sense.

Well done, Brad.  A plus on your first decision.

I’m good with it.  I miss Horford, and Marcus can run point.

I’m curious about Moses Brown.  He put up some crazy numbers at times.

I think he put up a 20/20 game against us this year.

https://mobile.twitter.com/MikeDynon/status/1405878866862870534

Well, he put up 20/20 in the first half and then basically got shut out the 2d half.

In other words, he's a 40/40 guy on a per 48 minute basis!! (green goggles)

His Per 36 MPG is 14.5PPG and 15RPG.

If the NBA let’s start six players, we should go undefeated. ;)

Well this feels like a backwards step.

Shouldn't we be looking for the next Al Horford? A 20-25yr old player who can step in and be part of the long term picture instead of a 30+yr old Horford who is steadily in decline.

This feels more like patchwork GMing than long term / sustainable building / forward momentum.
First priority this off season needed to be getting Kemba's contract out of here and there probably weren't a whole lot of teams out there eager to do anything beyond OKC. Al's contract was needed to make the deal happen.  Maybe it gets renegotiated?

First reaction to me is that all things considered, this is a heck of a trade.  They got some value back for Kemba which I didn't think was happening.  Granted they have up their #1 but the Celtics had to give up something in order to move Kemba.

Where's the better deal? I don't see it. Al has $27million owed this year, and $26.5 Million which is only 50% guaranteed next season. He's going to contribute. People want to take the one Philly season and pronounce Al washed. To get Moses Brown too is just a cherry on top.

I feel the same way. GMs are long term thinkers. Coaches are short term thinkings. Trying to fix your problem with a 30+yr old declining undersized center is short term thinking. CBS hasn't taken off his coaching hat yet.

Brown is raw, but has a much better future than Tacko.  I agree with earlier post, likely that TT gets moved during off season.  Would expect interest from Lakers among others.

Don't like the deal.  Trading 16 hurts.  This is not a top team in the East.  I'm normally a lot more positive but I just don't see how this deal makes us better.  Moses Brown is a long term backup and insurance if Timelord gets hurt.  Not a bad piece but not worth a 1st round pick.  I was really hoping the C's would draft a PG with 16.

More deals to be made.  They can resign Evan now if he wants to be here and probably use one of the lower level exceptions to sign a vet.

No assets to trade for a start like Beal. just a disappointing deal IMO.  If it was a lottery protected pick next year I'd be happier.  This is supposed to be a deep draft.  Hopefully the C's can buy a pick if a guy falls.
